wondering abou the build an optical quality of the 75-300

Rubbish. The 18–55mm is far superior.

Of course, I say that relatively. Make the lens work for you, and you can get great images out of both.

i am in australia so prices are different

The twin kit cost me about AU$1.5K. It should be cheaper now.

the kit is like 1300 but im getting bat grip and extra bat and i worked out the difference between the sinlge lens and the twin lens and its only like $100-$200 diference so i figure why not it could come in handy

and i mean i am a nooby /mediocore( i think thats what mediocre means)

J-Paka, have a look at www.qualitycamera.com.au (external link). Stu in WA has some good prices, and good aftermarket batteries that are much cheaper.

Its very reasonable. Maybe $20 odd. Call him tomorrow morning on the number on the site. Stu or his wife Germaine (i think that it) will be able to help you. Its via Australian Air Express, so unless your living in a hole you will get it the next day.

I bought this kit about 5/6months ago, I think the the 18-55mm is rubbish, but unlike others, I like the 75-300mm. It's not the sort of lens you would carry around with you, but I use it for shooting bird photos in my back yard. This is at 300mm (slightly sharpened in CS2 - only slightly).

Teds prices are inflated, IMO. try camera house or the good guys, or buy online if you want to take the risk. Having been using this camera for a few months now though, I would have been better off buying the body, a 50mm 1.8 and a 28-135mm IS USM.

Good Luck! Hope this helps

j-paka, Check out www.photobuff.com.au (external link).

Good prices and based in Melbourne, it's where I get all my canon gear now.

Good photo. You have a better copy than mine. Conversely, I have (in my mind) an excellent copy of the 18–55.
