JPG Color Issues

I have Spyder2Pro. I calibrated my monitor. I shoot in RAW make adjustments in ACR and save in TIFF. Then I do my PP in PS CS3 and save the TIFF as my final copy. I crop my proofs in 5x7 and save a copy in jpg (from my final TIFF) to show my clients. My prints match my TIFFs on my calibrated monitor perfectly. But my jpgs always have a magenta color cast and I can't figure out why. They are saved directly from the final TIFF with no adjustments. I can't figure it out and it's driving me crazy.

Any ideas?

It sounds like you aren't converting your image to sRGB prior to saving the jpeg. Edit/Convert to profile, choose sRGB, then save you jpeg and that should do the trick. Jpegs are meant to be "universally viewable" on non-color-managed apps, which know nothing about the color spaces Adobe apps use.

Thanks Tony. I'll check that but I'm sure when I convert fom RAW to TIFF the TIFF is in sRGB. I do my edits. When I create my proof from my (sRGB) TIFF I either 'Save As" a jpg or 'Save for Web' (which creates a jpg). Both jpgs have a magenta color cast. I will double check by looking at the color space of the jpg. I've talked to dozens of people and I can't figure this out.

You are saving them with embedded ICC profile?
Viewing both files in PSCS3?

Jeni,

I hope you get to the root of the problem! Have you checked Edit/Color Settings to examine how PS sets and manages the color spaces? Between that and the Convert to Profile dialogue there are numerous options that, if they get mixed up can throw your color off.

Printing, if managed by PS, will use an ICC profile for your printer/paper combo and won't behave in the same way as a jpeg saved for viewing. So, for the printing, PS could be in the AdobeRGB or ProPhoto RGB and it should print just fine (if your printer manages the color, the results might not be so good in those instances). So to print to your managed printer, you don't need to convert to sRGB.

One thing you can do in your Color Settings dialogue: set your Working Space to whatever you are comfortable with (sRGB to start with) then in your Color Management Policies for RGB select Convert to working RGB, then check the boxes to turn on Asking: this will keep you aware of what is happening when your opening your file initially and, if it's not what you think it should be, give you a heads up.

I hope I'm not just telling you stuff you already know and adding to your frustrations:)! I imagine we've all wrestled with tough problems and are with you!

Thanks so very much Tony! I will look at that stuff tonight when I get home. Like I said for printing I'm good to go. But I do show my proofs (jpgs) to my customers and I provide them with a caveat that monitors vary yadda yadda yadda...but it bugs me that they look pinkish and I hope that it's not affecting my sales.

I wish I could do my proofs in TIFFs but with my website I have to use jpgs.

I really appreciate everyone taking the time to try to help me out!! :)
