Anyone regret buying a G9

I'm on the fence about this camera. I have a 30D, and a G6 currently. The G6 is great, but it's getting worn out. The zoom sticks, and sometimes won't shoot at all in the digital zoom zone. Having said that, it works well enough 90% of the time.

Anyone regret the purchase of a G9 because you were unhappy with how it worked out for you, or returned it for a different camera?

I have a 30D and I was thinking about trying to get a G6....mainly for the f/2-3 zoom lens.

I don't think I want yours though.

Are you sure? I'll make you a heck of a deal on it. :)
Seriously though, I was just playing with it, and It only sticks when you zoom in. If the zoom sticks, then it won't let you take apicture till you move the zoom lever to the middle. Other than that it works perfect. I think it just needs a cleaning. Anyone ever take one of these apart?

UPDATE: Whaddya know, I just fixed it. It looked like it must have gotten bumped somewhere along the line and the body wasn't quite seted right.
I guess I'll save my dough for 100-400mm I'm craving

No, I have an S70 / D40 (also have had XT and XTi). The G9 is the best pocket camera I've used to date. The S70 was my "fav" until I got the G9.

+1.

I've been shooting since 1998.
Owned Olympus, Sony, Nikon, Canon, Panny P&S
And Sony, Canon DSLR.

I've been through my fair share of cameras.
For a P&S, the most versatile was by far the Panny FZ50. But for PQ and features, the G9 is the closest to a DSLR in bright day light.

+1 (everyone should focus on the bright day light comment ISO 80 or 100...;))

Don't regret buying mine .... it goes well between an Ixus 70 and a 5D.

Had trouble getting used to a compact with as many settings as an SLR though!

The Ixus is simple point and shoot which I love whereas the G9 definitely encourages you to make use of it's features - something I am not yet too good at !! It is second nature to me on the 5D but not yet on the G9 .... no fault of the camera though, just it's operator .....

Absolutely not! I love the G9 it was one heck of a deal and blows away the G6 in every way. I had a G6 and what I didnt like about it was how slow the focus was, the G9 is almost as fast as a dSLR. It has great IQ. And the size is a great size.

The G6 and the G9 are two different cameras and the G6 shows its age compared to the G6.

Yes I do regret buying the G9. I regret not buying it sooner!

I shoot 99% at the wide end so I added a Lensmate adapter with a B&W UV filter and a Voigtlander (Cosina) 35mm brightline finder that fits in the hot shoe because I shoot with the display off. The G9 is now more like a digital version of my Leica IIIc, only smaller.

Wow! Does that qualify me for anything?

Nope, no regrets.

I bought this for my wife, so I'd get a few shots of myself in them when we go on vacation. But looks like I'll be using this one a lot. Way too many features for someone looking to just point-n-shoot but has loads of potential (not to mention geek factor.)

Only nitpick I have is that it could have used the flip-out/swivel digital viewfinder like the old powershots. I found it very useful on my first Digital camera (G1) for overhead or awkward angled shots.

Sounding good fella's ... just picked one up to use as my 'poor mans Leica' in street shooting. Had a Panasonic TZ3 which is highly recommended but needed the RAW output. People ignore you with these little cameras, unlike a DSLR set up.

I am just wondering why you bought the BrightLine Finder? The G9 has a built in optic viewfinder which caters for zoom also. Isn't that good enough?
