Some friends got together recently in a small recording studio. I used the day as an opportunity to shoot lots of photos and to try some things I just hadn't bothered to try before. This shot was hand held with my 24-105mm at 1/6 of a second, f/4.0 and ISO of 200. I had set the camera for black & white. I am quite pleased with the shot. My friend, Steve the guitar player was really impressed. We are heading back to the studio this coming Saturday; I am certainly going to try this again.
This is my first post in this section of the Forum, so be gentle.

That's it Mike; zoom the focal length during a long exposure. Having a lens with image stabilization certainly helps. I suppose it could be done with the camera mounted on a tripod. I just went back and viewed the various attempts I made to get this kind of shot; there is a lot of junk! I think with practice you could get better at this but it would still likely be somewhat hit and miss.

Here's another one that truned out pretty well although it isn't as striking as the first one.

Thanks Ken. It's really effective. I'll have to have a go at that effect sometime too :-D
