My wife and I bought matching wrist watches to each other as wedding gifts on our honeymoon. I’ve wanted to photograph it ever since. Finally I had some free time yesterday evening and had a go.

I used a single snooted 430EX in manual (triggered by a ST-E2) on camera right firing onto a white paper to the left and slightly in front of the watch. I had a metallic (silver) paper underneath the watch, and a large black paper as background.

If you click the image, you’re able to view it large. C&C is welcome as always.

I really like how you were able to isolate the time piece so well. ( no watch band) Nice shot.

Thanks. The wrist strap (band) was black leather, so it hardly showed up at all.

Very well done. With the weather turning nasty again, I've been thinking about hauling my light box back out of hiding.

I could see using a metallic like paper as a background next time to catch a bit of reflection onto it. This is great and simple, but it needs some background separation.

Thanks. There was a bit more reflection in front of the watch thanks to the metallic paper, but I toned it down in PP. One part of me would like more background separation as well, but the other part of me thinks it looks good as it's all black.

Yesterday, I did another try, but this time with two watches. I noticed it was much harder to get the correct lighting on both watches, plus getting focus right on both does take a bit of trial and error with angels.

Oh, I didn't change the time either time. In the first photo it's about 7:20PM (well... looking up side down it's 10:10 :) ), in the second 5:24 PM :)

There's a darker line on the face of the male watch... I have no idea where it came from.
