Nifty Fifty is new again thanks to the 5D

Ok, I never liked the nifty fifty on my crop bodies, it always seemed soft to me and not worth the trouble. But, I picked it up for the first time in years today and put it on my 5D and I love the IQ I got from this.

It was fun playing around with it....now I'm thinking of upgrading to the $300 one...what's the difference in these..

Is the glass different or just the casing?

apart from the obvious, the 50 f1.4 has a metal mount instead of plastic and has USM.

The two were made for each other, you might say.

The 1.4 has better build quality, USM, f/1.4, metal mount, better IQ... It's a good upgrade but not absolutely necessary if you're happy with the 1.8. The AF is the biggest, best change.

Well I might have to get one, I shoot my dogs all the time and the USM will make it easier to focus on them when they're being willy nilly.

Definitely... USM is the way to go.

That's great to know...I have the MK1 and someday I'll have a 5D...

Once you move up to a full frame sensor, you're pretty much using your EF lenses as they were designed...makes a real difference in the final result.

I so agree with you on the 50 1.8. I was hardly using it on my crop camera (30 1.4 was the king). However on my 5D I am finding it sharp, and perfect focal length. that much said, I also ordered 50 1.4, scheduled to arrive end of the week.
