It appears to me that sales are slowing a bit in the Sell Forums. Myself, and many others, have camera bodies posted (along with the hard-to-find BG-E2 grip) that aren't selling as quickly as had in the past.

Consumer fatigue? Economy going bad? Credit crunch?

Just curious...

It's all good, Jim. The post was more of an observation. My stuff will sell when it sells. :D

I think it's a mix of this and with the current rebates I think more people are going to buy new rather than used for the time being. I personally just bought a laptop so no new toys for a bit.

I'm taking pictures of everything, so go ahead and take this place away from me.

as mentioned above, between a flooded market, big rebates, and the holiday season the used market it a bit slow right now, great for buyers because they have a good bit of room to wiggle down the price, but bad for sellers.

I think its due to the "sub-prime mortgage credit crunch"!

As someone who was recently looking through the Sell forum for my new camera, I can tell you why *I* didn't end up buying anything: prices too high. At least for what I was looking for. When people are selling 30D bodies used for $750-800, and I can buy a new 30D w/17-85 lens for $1150, well... I'm buying the new one. Maybe that's a pattern -- new stuff is dropping in price fast enough that the used market isn't keeping up to date on their value.

Right on.

The selling price on bodies and certain lenses has been in free fall. Especially the older bodies. Even 30D's need to be $750 or less., sometimes a lot less. Not what prospective sellers want to hear but it is music to the ears of someone who doesn't need the latest greatest and is on a tight budget.

The best lens deal out there is the 28-105 IS brand new out of a 40D kit. B&H gets $400 for the lens alone but it is only $200 as part of the 40D kit. (My local shop gets $500 for the same lens). The going price seems to be hold near $300. Not a bad price for a new IS lens of reasonable quality. Good for both buyer and seller.

L glass continues to hold it's value as always.

Just some observations.

Now that's just damn amazing!

Hehe, but yeah the slow down has definitely been noticeable lately. I sold my 5D locally and got $150 more than my highest offer on here. I was pretty happy with that.

I haven't noticed a slowdown. When I want to sell something, I price it aggressively and it sells quickly.

I was in the market for a 35L. Some people here linked me to one that I hadn't seen. The person was selling it for like $85 less than new. I mean, come on. I'm not saying it wasn't in like new condition, but it's just not worth taking the chances of buying used to save basically nothing.

Also, the pattern in the sell forum is people want their items to remain on the front page as long as possible, so they price a bit higher than they really will accept, and then progressively lower the price which is an allowable bump basically. Everyone knows this and just sits back and waits for the price drop.

I just bought a Sigma 12-24. He was asking $550. The lens sells at B&H for approx. $690 so the price wasn't bad. I offered less, we met in the middle, and I got a fantastic lens and saved close to $200. That's almost a third off. That made it worthwhile.
