I'd be interested to see how much it sells for with the 1.2 version out - maybe the item's value as a collector's item won't have changed at all... Gear Listhttp://www.codastudios.com.au

You know all those questions about how to get good pictures in low light near the action, like a concert, play, or family, etc? This lens would be the one. The price is what it is due to two factors, 1) the speed of the glass and 2) the collector's value on this rare lens. From what I have read, this lens is not the greatest value for the money, but it doesn't stop the collectors out there. Past Equipment | My Personal Gallery

Sorry if this is a total noob question. Although discontinued it remains the fastest lens ever made for an SLR. That's what gives it collector status even though, in use, the image quality is surpassed by all the other Canon 50mm versions (where they overlap in aperture range). Mark.

Pictures never seem to convey the size of this lens. When you see one in the flesh you go 'Wow'. Agreed. I had a chance to examine one back in about 2000 or 2001 and I can still remember thinking, "Damn, what a chunk of glass..." Jay
