G9: When working in P-A-T modes will pressing the shutter 1/2 way down freeze the exposure along with the focus or must the AE lock button be pressed at the same time?

As I said on the other thread, on the G6 and Canon d-SLRs, the half-press locks AF and there's an "asterisk" button for AE lock. I guess it's *possible* that the G9 is different, but seeing that there's an asterisk button on the G9 in the same position as the G6 and d-SLRs…

You could check the manual if you want a second opinon, or failing that, you could always hold down the shutter release halfway and move the camera around and see if the exposure stays the same, then do the same with the * button.

BTW, They don't need to be pressed "at the same time," it's often useful to lock exposure and focus in different positions.

to answer your question, yes. i just checked in av mode (all three of the metering modes) and pressing the shutter down half way locks the focus AND the exposure. you can use the * button if you do not want to lock exposure and focus at the same time.
