Is there a prime in the 28mm-50mm range that is close to the Canon 85 1.8 in image quality & sharpness? Can't swing any L's just yet. I have the 50 1.8..... but after using the 85.....well, I got spoiled!

Thanks, K

50/1.4, 50/2.5 macro, 50/1.8, 35/2. These are pretty sharp stopping down a little bit.

4x4rock, Comparing the 50 1.4 & 1.8.. Is there a definite difference in the image quality?

28mm f/1.8 is the one that comes to my mind, though I've never used it.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

28 1.8, Sigma 30 1.4, Canon 35 f/2, and 50 1.4. Those are the sharp ones.

I had the 50 1.4 before I got the 1.2. It is a very fine lens

The OP did say that they couldn't "swing any "L" lenses". :)

No, though the bokeh of the 50 1.4 is better. The 50 1.4 also has better build and focus performance.

At which apertures? Non-Ls wide-open.. probably not (mainly at the borders). Stopped down a bit, you've got quite a few candidates.

The 28/1.8 is quite nice, but of course the resolution it delivers isn't entirely on par with the L-primes. I like the focal length on the 40D (almost equivalent to a 50mm FF) and it has become my most used lens. It's not tack sharp in the corners wide open but still good enough for my needs.
