What is the preferred way of putting the flash on a xti?
A firend of mine states that when he puts the flash on the camera ,and then turns the camera on-the flash, his ettl function does not show up ?
However ,if he puts the flash on first ,then turns it on ..then the body.... all works fine

I've tried this on my 40D and have no such issue.
Is anyone experiencing this on an xti?
Or should he take both of them to canon for servicing??

Any suggestions would be appreciated,
Thanks
Mike

OK
Just in case someone else has this problem-Here' the response from Canon

Thank you for writing to us. We value you as a Canon customer and
appreciate the opportunity to assist you with your Digital Rebel XTi.

Generally it should not make a difference as to which is turned on
first. In situations like this, resetting the flash and camera should
resolve this.

To reset the Speedlite 430EX, remove the batteries and allow it to sit
for about twenty minutes.

To reset your camera, please follow these steps:

1. Set the camera to one of the CREATIVE ZONE modes.

2. Press the MENU button.

3. JUMP to the yellow SET UP menu.

4. Scroll to the CLEAR SETTINGS option and press SET.

5. Select CLEAR ALL CAMERA SETTINGS and press SET.

6. Select OK and press SET. You will then return to the menu.

7. Select CLEAR SETTINGS again and press SET.

8. Select CLEAR ALL CUSTOM FUNCTIONS and press SET.

9. Select OK and press SET.

Try using the camera again and flash. You should be able to turn either
on first.

We hope this information is helpful to you. Please let us know if we
can be of any further assistance with your Digital Rebel XTi.

Thank you for choosing Canon.

Sincerely,

Renee

Sorry, I am either going to need a few more drinks, or a few less drinks to follow those Canon instructions.

It's never made any difference to me what order things are done in. Canon's instructions are just to reset everything, pretty simple really. Have a few more drinks :)

Did have one previously that would power off, but anytime you had the flash on camera, and pressed the shutter, the flash would power up on its own, regardless of switch position. Took it back and no problems, since.
