Well I have about $2,000 to spend in about a month so I am looking for new gear. I will be upgrading from an Rebel XTi which I no longer have. So here is where I am needing help.

Camera Body

I am leaning towards a used 20D or a newer used 30D. I want a body with 5fps. I want to expand my sports shooting and would like to have the fater FPS. I know enough to get off shooting auto, yet I am still learning. I mostly shoot for fun but would like to expand on that and try my hand at other things. I was thinking about a new 40D and then using the kit lens and save up to buy the next lens in my post, I dont need it right away, but would like to have before the baseball season starts.

Lens
I am leaning towards going with the 70-200mm F2.8 non IS version. I have used the non IS version of the F4 and was impressed with the photos that were produced. I would like the IS version, but for starting back out I think I want to save the money and get the non IS version. Plus down the road I can sell this and get close to what I paid for it at least thats what the trend looks like for used ones. Just curious, how heavy is this lens and can you shoot with it hand held?

Other then that, was thinking about the 28-135 IS lens for a walk around lens over the 18-55. At this point I know I would be running low on money so this might be a good fit until I can save up more money for a better lens.

I also want a nifty fifty. For the price its worth having in my bag.

Please throw advice out my way to help me make my choice. Most of you have or have used the above mentioned lens and can give me your thoughts on the choices. I have a budget and want to stay close to that, but willing to spend more within reason. Thanks.

For shooting sports I would stretch the budget and go with the 40D.

The improved AF and lower noise are a real benefit.

I love our 70-200 f2.8--great choice.

This is only true if you buy used to begin with. Otherwise it will bring 80-85% of the original cost (depends on whether rebates are available on new)

If I was going for a 70-200 without the IS I would seriously consider the sigma. Used 30D's are very affordable but the 40D seems to be very appealing for sports shooting. you would save $ on the sigma lens, particularly if you buy it used, same with the 30D and still have cash left for the 50 and 28-135 if you want.
