From a frosty Sunday - low 20s (f) at Prouts Neck Maine - on the harbor side - big sand flats expose here at low tides - avg. Maine tide is about 9 feet. 500mm on bushhawk. c/c always welcomed - these are 2/3 crops, meaning 2/3s is gone. Bob Malbon

This BBP flew in and stuck it beak right in the sand and got this clam - the plover did not eat it as far as I could tell.

Takes very little to spook these plovers - so off it went

This Dunlin was feeding on the tide line with these small waves coming in (from the lobster boats heading out for the day) fun to watch these guys time the waves.

Bob these are all very nice...I love the first shot, it's such a cute look...I was wondering how these birds open those clams? I use to see crows pick up calms and fly up above the railroad tracks that were near the water, and drop them on the rails or rocks along the bed of the tracks. This would crack them open...It was alot of fun to see as they sometimes had to retrieve it, and do it again until it cracked...steve

Steve, I do not think a Plover would eat a clam - I think it saw the bubbles from the clam and grabed it hoping it was a worm!
