Working on a 15" MacBook Pro and a 30" Apple Cinema Display here. Wonderful combo.

Just started a new job, and I'm working on a 30" Cinema Display. It's ok, but it's certainly not my preference.

I've said this a hundred times before - I'd rather have a very very good small monitor than an average big one. In my last job I used a 19" Eizo - it was a thousand times better than this pretentious, over-sized p*nis extension ...

If you see a monitor as a p3nis extension then you have issues.

All I'm saying is, if you have the money for a 30" ACD, pause for a moment and ask yourself - do I really need all that size, or is accurate colour more important?

Well, I'm looking into the same thing. I want to add a 30" primary monitor for it's resolution but I need it to calibrate well, be consistent across it's surface, and not change too much (in terms of color) when viewed slightly off-angle. That leaves me with only the ones that use S-IPS panels. The 30" ACDs that I've used seem to be consistent across the screen but I have never calibrated one or printed from one that has been calibrated.

Steve, what version of the Dell 30" do you have and what do you think of it?

I would rather work off two 20"'s than one 30".

The Apple Cinema Displays are long overdue for an update. Personally, I'd wait.

One a bit off topic question. I was playing with this monitor one, but only for about hour. It's nothing all that great, except that it looks spectacular when you step into office and see it. But this is my very very personal opinion based on way too little time spent with it.
Now my question... I can't imagine myself working with that huge thing infront of me. I'm still happy using my 21" crt, and it's quite right size for me. With that 30" wall infront of me, I had feeling I actually need to turn my head left and right to see corners of screen. And for serious work, something like this is definitely not right thing... at least for me.
More I was thinking why would anyone want such huge wall, more I came to conclusion, that its only use for me would be, if I would have client sitting next to me or across the table, and this would be second monitor, where client could see things, and I would be working on smaller one.
Anyone have same feeling, or is this just me? Or am I the only one with monitor less then half a meter away from me? :)

When I'm looking at my InDesign Control Bar across the top of my 30" monitor, I've described it as "like scanning the horizon for ships".

I agree, it's waaay bigger than necessary. I find myself leaning left and right a lot.

I like your idea of a client monitor, though.

30 inch is wonderful. You can keep all your tools on screen in front of you.. you can load multiple version of the shot. It is particularly great for Aperture. You know... you don't have to blow the image up to full screen.

I personally have a 20" along with a 15" monitor. I use the 20" for all of my normal purposes, and the 15" is there for my tools bars in CS3 or my music player etc.

Honestly It's the best of both worlds, I have the space for editing, and the quality for printing.
