If you had a crop body with the 17-55 f/2.8 would you buy the 10-22?

I really want the 10-22mm UWA, but I already have the 17-55. Is that extra 7mm worth $640? Are the dynamics of the 10-22 different? I know it doesn't stop down as far as the 17-55, but that should be ok.

At 17-22mm do these lenses act the same minus the aperture capabilities?

Thanks!

Yes. I own the 17-55 and I want the widey bad!

And yes, the 7mm is worth $640 if you see the really cool stuff you can do at 10mm.

I've seen it and I want it too! But I'm just wondering if it's economical. Then again I don't really know another lens I personally would find enjoyable other than the 10-22.

7mm is a lot of coverage on the wide side of the scale. 10-22 could be very useful depending on your subject matter. for landscape work, i believe it's a must to include a UWA in your kit.

I have the 17-55 as well and have the 10-22 in the B&H shopping cart. Have not pulled the trigger yet because I am unsure of how much use it will get. I guess I am waiting for a day I say, "man...I sure wish I had a wider lens." Maybe this weekend when I go downtown.

Ya I love cityscapes, landscapes which is why I want this lens pretty bad. I don't see myself using a long zoom all too often.

Here's a San Francisco panorama w/ the 10-22, taken at 10mm (the UWA seems to give polarizer-like sky, even without a filter):

Sorry! Haha.

I might have to pull the trigger after this month's CC bill.
