Shall I buy a D1 now or better wait for the follow up model released within the next time?

It all depends on your needs. Are you a pro or serious amateur photographer ? Does your work depend on having equipment now? Are you satisfied with your current equipment setup?

Or are you a gadget hobbyist looking for the latest, greatest, fastest gadget? If a gadget hound, wait, there's always something better around the corner. If a photographer, get it now and experience the speed and flexibility of the EOS 1D.

It's got to be worth waiting for next month's Photokina to see whether Canon announce anything outstanding. Mind you, if they do, you'll probably have to wait months before you could buy it. :)

I had heard a RUMOUR that they were about to announce a 1D "studio" model.

Bound to be big-bucks - but hey - what's money for ? :-)

I'm in the same situation but have almost decided to go 1D now. The quality is good enough for me, my only concern is the front focus issue. I will wait a few more weeks in case news starts to leak out. If they do hopefully 1D prices will drop further. But even if a new one is announced it will be quite a while untill you can get one then there will be all the problems you usually get with new models which inevitably require firmware upgrades. So in reality it won't be available till next year. D60 is a prime example, in fact my dealer has given up on Canon and is selling Nikon D100's as fast as he can get them. His comment is at least he can get them and I see his point he has to make a living and can't sell what he has not got. David

Well you are correct. The new 1D is called 1DN and is at 10mp. Is not in production yet only prototype is around.

Anyway thats all I know right now.
