Finally got some time with Live View

It's getting cold out so all the little buggies are headed to their winter hide aways, but I caught this Wolfie taking a drink of rain water out of a fallen leaf. It was a bit cold so he just stood there while I got off several shots. Both are 4 pics stacked.

I got to say, I am really liking live view. It makes focusing and setting up worlds easier.

Very cool! did u use the 5x or 10x zoom on live view?

Thanx, yes, I used the 10x feature to fine focus. Took a set of four pics with each focused on a particular plane and stacked them.

How fast is the liveview display- is it effectively instant ? or is there a time delay.

It’s pretty much instantaneous but zooming in 10x does amplify every little movement and shake. You have to focus slowly and give the rig a second or two to settle as the display gets a bit fuzzy. I guess it clearly shows that I need to get a better tripod. . Maybe Santa will stuff one into my stocking. Also, when zoomed in you really notice the poor resolution of the LCD screen. But it’s a whole lot easier and more comfortable than lying down in the wet leaves. LV for macro is great and I know I will be using it more often. I haven’t tried it handheld yet but with the loss of AF I expect that it wont work as well as when tripod mounted and manually focusing.

Excellent second stack. Live view is very useful for tripod work on still subjects but as you say its hard to use hand held as it amplifies shake.
