OK, sorry if this isn't the right place to post.

Being that I've been out of the cold and nasty weather for over 15 years, I'll be heading to an event in Kansas City in mid December.

Aside from my camera gear (which I have already) can anyone recomend rain pants that they like. I'm trying to plan for the worst possible weather.

If I am going to be out on the course (I'm photographing cyclocross) for up to 6-7 hours a day and if it's cold and wet I'd like to be as comfortable as possible.

What items do winter photographers bring and/or tips should I know?

For example, I know to keep the extra batteries warm so they last a bit longer but what else should I plan for.

I have a good jacket, hat and some boots.

If anyone else is heading out for Nationals let me know, we can meet up and say hello in person.

Thanks in advance.

My suggestion is to check out Cabelas. They have their own brands made with Gore-Tex. The stuff I have bought from them is well made and inexpensive.

Browse around the site because they also have stuff for hunters which may have more pockets, etc.

Goretex is fine if you are not exerting yourself and remain basically sedintary. However, if you are trying to walk the course you might get pretty wet from perperation and condensation on the inside of your suit. You might be better off with some comfortable wool pants and jacket, and carry a poncho in the event of a downpoor. I doubt they'll run a cyclocross in Kansas if the temps get around freezing or below. I often spend 4-6 hours sneaking through the woods bow hunting in a light drizzle or mellow rain dressed only in wool and my fedora hat and just fine. Wool is the only material that will reliably keep you warm when wet--regardless of what the hype and ads say. If you are going to layer with waterproof shells, then layer over wool or fleece, but be prepared to vent. Be sure to get roomy clothes to allow you to move, crouch, climb over stuff like fences or logs and rocks for better photo angles. Another stylis alternative is the oil/waxed canvas stuff for cowboys--works very well, especially the double caped coats with a wide brimmed hat.

Surprisingly i find using a Mountain Bike jacket the best, due to the arms generally being longer (due to have to hold on to handlebars) Obviously when holding camera your arms are extended more than normal.

I have a jacket made by Gill, its originally a sailing clothing manufacturer however they also do very good mountain bike clothing!
It also has pit zips so when you get a bit to hot you can cool down. And pockets everywhere especially good for memory etc :)
