I have one AB800 but at the local Photo store they have a used Powerlight 375 for a little less money, which is a better light for key or BR?
I did a search but didn't find what I was looking for.

Thanks!

How much less?

Read through the Alienbees website carefully. Learn all you can about capabilities, specs, and warranty. Especially warranty. Pay attention to true wattseconds, not effective wattseconds.

Armed with that knowledge, go back to the local store and start asking questions.

I believe in supporting local camera shops if they provide good service and guidance. But the harsh reality is that Alienbees are hard to beat. The owner of my local camera shop said that himself.

Well they wanted 280 for the photogenic and the ab800 is 279 - I already have one and like it alot, but the Photogenic was beat up and had no reflector dish or bulb cap.

I found one on ebay that looked like new with a couple soft boxes for 250 so that is what I did, hopefully it will be decent or I will sell it and get another Bee :)

Thanks for your input.

Most modern monolights will work fine together. Nothing wrong with mixing brands if you find a good deal on something. Admittedly you limit your options for interchanging modifiers when you do this, but if all you need is a background or hair light, most any brand can work.

what is BR?

I believe in this case the OP was referring to a background light.

Why not, this light sells for 6-700 dollars new, although it is about 5 years old but shows little use.
