I am having problem with lens hoods for 17-55IS and 10-22. They are just too big, too wide. Looks like my camera wont fit anymore. Anyone has to upgrade camera bag just because of lens hoods?

To me, the lens hood on the 10-22 is totally pointless. It never went in my bag when I owned it.

Gear does have a way of multiplying, doesn't it?!

I just take the hoods off and put them in another compartment of my backpack. But I can only do this because I have a lot of extra space. Maybe try putting the hoods on backwards?

Which is what I do - but I bought my bag with this in mind.

It still amazes me when I see other others out and about with no hood on, and just the camera and lens dangling on their shoulder - apparently they don't know what they are for, or more importantly what they can prevent in terms of damage.

I agree the 10-22 hood is useless (much like my 16-35 hood).

What I do with my hoods (the useful ones) is to stack them together and slip my 580EX (sometimes more - you'd be amazed how much you can fit into a 70-200 hood) inside and then into the bag. So you actually get a little bit of extra room by combining stuff.

I have a Slingshot 200AW and can fit body and all the lenses (with all hoods, including 16-35 if I want) except TC's and 8mm, plus both of the flashes (or one flash and both TC's) and a number of small accessories, like batteries and blower with no problem. If I take out the 70-200 then I can fit the remainder with room to spare).

Unfortunitly, 2 out mine most used lens do require use of hood because of their relatively weak flare resistance. They are 17-55IS and 85f1.8. The 17-55 hood is soooo huge.

Before I got Canon 10-22, I was able to put 40D+17-55IS hood reversed, 30D+85f1.8 hood reversed, 2 580ex into Lowepro stealth reporter 300. With new Canon 10-22, I probably need a new bag if I want to still carry any hoods.

I am thinking of getting a Lowepro Omni Tracker to fit all my gear. Anyone have this bag?

How do you decide in advance what day you'll bump your lens and benefit from the protection? ;)

It is a big sucker but I've not had trouble fitting it in my Domke F-1x or Slingshot 200. I don't reverse the hood in either bag.

I have never bump my lenses other than if i m moving stuff in a studio. The lense hood is only useful to cut down flare for me. So if i shoot outdoor that day i bring the hood. I detach it and put it in plastic bag, attached to my shoulder bag. If the hood breaks due to mishandling i will just get a generic replacement from ebay.

I know what lens hoods are for and pretty much never use them either. In 15 years amazingly enough i've never broken a lens, but I've also never dropped one. I do use the hood for the sigma 30 in bright sunlight, but thats fairly rare.

My 10-22 hood is in a cupboard - It's about the size of a dinner plate!

My 135L hood is about the size of a small bucket, but it does just fit in the bag and is used at all times.

My Sigma 70-200 hood is reversed over the end of the lens and this fits into my 24-105L leather(ete) bag for a bit of scuff protection.

All other hoods are no problem.

If the hood makes the lens to long to fit in my bag I just reverse it. I always leave the hoods on all my lenses only time I don't use them is if they get in the way of a very close shot or cause a shadow in the image.

I like having the hoods on the lenses, prevents fingers from accidentally touching the lens and from accidents.

I consider as reversed hood as part of the size of the lens, so I've never really thought about whether more could be fitted into a bag without them. They improve virtually every photo I take and offer physical protection, They're an essential to me, and so there's no way I'd not have them with me, I just have a bag(s) that'll take it all.

Hood always on the lens (except when shooting macro with flash). In bag, they are stored on lens, reversed.
