Hello everyone. I just bought a Giottos tripod today and just want to share with you my first impression. It's a MT 8350 carbon fiber tripod paired with a Manfrotto 846RC2 ballhead.
I was looking for a lightweight yet sturdy tripod to bring on trips. The Manfrotto 055pro was just too big and heavy. MT8350 + 486rc2 = 1.8Kg, 055pro + 486rc2 = 3Kg. Very big difference. Shorter by 4", but isn't short for my height (6'1"). I do have to extend the middle column, but not fully. When not extended it's a joy to carry.
The legs are quite thin compared to the 055 but firm. Not as firm as aluminum of course.
I had to loosen the leg joints a bit using the included tools. Good thing I had a pair of pliers to tighten them again because I loosened them too much. Without the pliers to hold the opposite side the bolts will just keep turning.
The center column can be tilted for close up shots
Finally, the extras. A bag, a couple of tools, strap, and keychain.
Price: $206.55 Australian. That includes the 15% off Discount Digital Photographics is offering now until end of November. So Aussies looking for a good deal on Giottos tripods might want to check them out
