Photo Contests and Aspect Ratios

I'm planning on entering a photo competition where they ask you to mail in 8x10 prints for consideration. However the shot that I'm planning on entering isn't 4:5 it's 16:9. For people that have photo contest experience, am I best to crop my photo to 8x10, which I'd really like to avoid doing. Or is it okay to maintain the aspect ratio, print it 8x10 with horizontal bars above and below the image.

I like the shot the way it is, but I honestly haven't attempted an 8x10 crop of it yet. I'll probably look into that tonight.
