I made that jump. Now I don't miss sport shots waiting for the buffer. Not to mention the faster burst rate, better focusing, better sensor, custom functions, less noise at high ISO, and the list goes on and on and on and....

BTW if you use 2GB cards, you better get at least 4GB cards for the 40D
Oh, the build is superior to the 300D.

I noticed that the RAW files are much larger than my XT's RAW files. =T I went out and bought a few CF cards earlier.

If you spend too much more on gear, maybe she'll leave.

Exactly how many RAWs can you get on a 2GB card w/ the 40D? I've got 3 2gbs and rarely have to use all 3 before dumping off the shots. Still, I don't want to have to worry about switching out CF cards EVERYTIME I go out shooting either.

I think that it's 152 max. One factor is that the amount which will fit changes based on the ISO.

If you take your photography seriously, then I'd say you are overdue for an upgrade. If you do go for the 40D you will certainly not be disappointed.

How seriously one takes one's photography has virtually nothing to do with what kind of camera one uses.

I agree but the type of photography has a lot to do with choice in bodies.
My DRebel (300D) was great for landscapes but not for sports.

Apples and oranges. The comment wasn't about the type of photography, it was about how serious one was about one's photography. It's a completely different context.

You're right
I was just adding a factor that should be considered when choosing a camera.

Like Mike R said, not all RAW files are the same size, but 2GB is well under 200 pics for a 2GB card. The shots I took during Thanksgiving averaged about 12MB per picture. The 2GB on my 350D/XT did about 240 RAW files, so that's a pretty big difference for me. Also, I only had one 2GB card and that was it. I remember going out one time with a full card and being ver dissappointed since I couldn't take any pictures. =T I've been wanting to get another 2GB since, but laziness got the best of me. So with the Staples deal, why not get 3 cards at ~$15 each. =]

Absolutely. This is why we have 40Ds, 1D's , Hassy H1's, and Sinar's with a P45 back! :)

Some folks I know make compelling and resonant images with a plastic Holga and (for goodness sakes) film!

The 40D is a great camera and I like it because the menus and controls are pretty much the same as my MKIII. You made a good choice.;)

;)If you think the 40D feels great... try holding the 1DMIII.... than your 40D feels like a Semi Pro, but then again... the 40D is a Semi Pro camera!;)
