I had a chance to go look at the 40d and the 5d today. I have decided I will be getting the 40d instead of the 5d. One factor for me is that would loose a lot of focal length with the FF 5d. I have to say the 40d was Amazing. The feel of that camera was so unlike canon. It feels perfect in my hands. I don't think I will use the live view, but the camera is pretty intuitive.

I think it will be a nice step up from the rebel xt I currently own.

I have wondering which way to go just like you, I want one lens which I allready have with my XTI ( 24- 105 ) = ( 38 - 168 with crop camera ) I keep saying when I'm wondering arround with the camera taking some landscape stuff that it would be great to have a bit more on the Wide side hmmm so maybe a 5D would be nice but then I thought I would miss the length if I had the 5D, so which way to go, I have a feeling I will forgoe the extra width and go for the 40D.

EOS MAN1,
I also think the 40D is amazing, so much so that I got my first EF-s lens, a Canon EF-s 10-22 f/3.5-4.5 :) My 5D and 17-40 f/4L are now just backups (poor 5D  ).
Enjoy your camera when you get it :)

John B...I'll trade you my 40D for your 5D...especially if it's just sitting there gathering dust as a backup!
