Dave -- Another shot evoking mystery, like the one with the stage door sign. The mystery ends with a... a.... a Subway! Yummmm.

Not so much mystery but more that we stumble down blind alleys looking for ... something ... and all that many are able to find is junk and junk food to satisfy their hunger ;-)a

Loved all the pictures, I loved how the lights were the only thing that showed in the reindeer led picture. I thought he set it up in some studio at first =).

The NY shots brought back memories, the first thing that popped into my mind was the two theaters very close to it. I guess I totally forgot about the McDonalds =).

Why a subways and not a mcdonalds =) McDonalds always seems to be a common theme.

Oh, if you want to see garbage, I have a nice garbage shot. I'll go take it right now and post it up when I have time.

For now, here is my take on this. A bit blurry shh, it was raining outside when I took it.

Hey, cool Dave. Subway at the end of a 'subway' ;)

John -- Party Poppers! Let the games begin! Come to think of it, I never saw any before. Are they firecrackers or do goodies pop out of them?

<snip>

"Consumerism" makes me think of all the trash that it generates. So I looked for trash.

They are a 'sort-of' cracker. Quite small, you can (for example) fire them off at a Christmas table. They make a bit of a bang and propel the cardboard stopper on the end followed by some little streamers when you pull that string.

If I felt like scaring the hell out of the dog, I would try to set up a shot with the streamers streaming out - but the other inhabitant here is not keen on the idea.

Yup - consumerism generates garbage - good choice!

Loved all the pictures, I loved how the lights were the only thing that showed in the reindeer led picture. I thought he set it up in some studio at first =).

I deliberately underexposed the shot to:

a) reduce the glare from the red lights, and
b) 'hide' the roof that was illuminated in the shot.

I have since read that it is better to take these shots a couple of hours earlier and include the whole building. Oh, well. :D

And yet another fine example of consumerism. Cool.

Christmas parties will be starting this weekend. How about something like "get togethers" or "events".

Dudes and dudettes, I apologize for being silent. I have absolutely no photos from last weekend having spent my energies on cooking, braving the BF deals, and heading home to NYC (I was in the Washington DC area) on Sunday. So this time I am purely a spectator, and I must say that I like the different tacks on the theme.

John - Great reminder that Christmas is just around the corner. What lights do you have for the studio?

Crissa - I am so not looking forward to duking it out with shoopers as Christmas draws near. It does seem that McDonald's pops up in our photos every now and then....

Mike - It looks like that Sigma is a great low light performer. I'd love to have a huge tree, but we have no space here.

Dave - All paths lead to a fastfood place! Well to be fair, Subway has to be the healthiest of the lot. If you get the low-fat items.

Barbara - Ah a different take! The trash of the packaging materials for one Christmas season must be mind boggling. Something to think about.

ooo - Shoppers on the street, great to look at. Where is this place?

I find it telling how Christmas photos found their way into the Consumerism theme. Like it or not, it is the way of the world as we know it today.

What's the next theme?

I have 3 pair - and I use them dependent on setup. 2 x 600Ws, 2 x 180Ws and 2 x 110Ws

I have been known to have all 6 in a shoot but, more often, only use 2.

They were sourced locally in Australia - that way I get an easy-replace warranty and 230V operation - no need to muck around with things like the Alien Bees on-again/off-again policy on shipping 230V units.

Well, Mike suggested "get togethers" or "events." Let's go with that. Since "event" is a broad topic that includes "get togethers," let's make it "event." I'll start the thread, but I'm not sure I'll be able to shoot this weekend.

PM Tommy or one of the other mods and ask them to move it to storage, Barbara.
