Worth backing up the OS partition as an image to your external hard disk (you can boot from it). I've found it a lifesaver when things go bad... like when I installed a OS security update and my MacBook Pro failed to boot up afterwards.

That is a very good idea. With my old G4, I'll use that as the back up partition. I'm thinking of making it wi-fi, so can store it in a corner in my living room, all by itself.

Saw this thread and thought I'd say, "hi". I'm based down in Deal on the lovely cold Kentish coast. No photos to share as yet mind as I've only had my 400D a few days and still learning what this SLR malarky is about.

Welcome :)

Been through Deal a few times, when driving around Dover/Folkestone/St Margaret's on Cliffe etc - Love the cliffs around the area

I'm much closer to London though, but got a cousin in Canterbury, so have a good excuse to head that way

Welcome ;)

For my sins I went to school @ DYRMS in Dover (left nearly 30 years ago though - how time fly's by!). The cliffs and local surround are stunning (even when you are ordered to run all around them in X-Country!).

Been back to the area a few times mainly passing through the port, but not with my camera.

5D MK2 and 50D + Grips. 50mm 1.4, Sigma 10-20. Canon 100 f2.8 & Kenko tubes for a bit of macro + my favourites - 24-70 L & 70-200 f2.8L. It's not what you have it's the way you use it ;).....in my case.........badly :p

Hey I was in Canterbury with my wife today, spent the whole day on Stodmarsh Nature Reserve. Great place!!

Sad thing is I live in Canters and have no idea where the Stodmarsh Nature reserve is! Time to google it...

Edit: Ah, just saw it on a map - its well out past Sturry. Should go out there some time when I get some good weather. Did you get any good shots?

There is a Hide where you can sit and get guaranteed Kingfisher images, the resident bird is apparently the most photographed in the UK. I didn't have long, about twenty minutes, in the hide because my wife wasn't too well and we had to get home but her arrived twice to sit on the conveniently placed twigs (with perfect backgrounds). Park in the Grove Ferry car park and it's a five minute walk, if you park in the Stodmarsh car park you'll be walking for over an hour.

Before I was dragged away from the hide kicking and screaming by my wife, here is my shot of the kingfisher. For some unknown reason my Mark III thought it would go on a bit of a focusing holiday. The air inside that hide was blue and the remaining wildlife scattered!!!
I don't think any amount of USM is going to rescue this one :(

Great work Adam!
When are we catching up.. you're so close! *wonders if there'll be another frozen lake ever again*

We do need to do something! I'm off work on the 13th/14th for those 2 days, or we could do something after work whenever/wherever.
