Well 24 was not bad, I can just crop out the edges which I have done below but this was a shot I took one from one of the bridges on the way home. I say on the way home, this was a detour. I know how sunny it can get here so it was a good spot to see how well it does.

Seems to be ok but will have it handy on Sunday to give it a good bashing around.

First aerial shot from my new G9 :)

IMAGE: http://hogster.rchomepage.com/aerial_photos/first_g9_aerial_photo_5-6-08.jpg

It was being carried by this:

IMAGE: http://hogster.rchomepage.com/logo10/front_mount/ball_mount/30-5-08/ball_angled_down.jpg

I'm still experiencing some vibration problems with the helicopter, and even at 1/500s there was blur in most of the images .... I wonder if having the IS on 'continuous mode' doesn't help (as it won't be able to correct for any high-speed vibrations) ....

Still, more progress to come I'm sure :)

Cheers,

David

David, that is crazy! I love it. Should bring that to the POTN meet at Canary Wharf. See what police have to say or do about that

How did you have it mounted? In the cockpit?

Seriously cool David, I love your helicopter shots!

I've used my g9 pretty regularly at 400 ISO, have you tried that out at all? Might help out with the vibrations (though I'm obviously just guessing, never having done anything remotely like that before ;))

Love those aerial shots, David. Canary Wharf would be a blast with one of those, literally, as it was blasted out of the sky :D

Hehe I wondered if you chaps would suggest bringing it to Canary Wharf – I know you too well evidently :p

Yup it sits inside the ball like this:

IMAGE: http://hogster.rchomepage.com/logo10/front_mount/ball_mount/24.jpg

The ball aids visibility for me as the pilot, and also helps smooth the airflow over the camera :)

I have taken photos down to 1/200s without a problem ... the heli just seems to be rather temperamental at the moment, it was very smooth last night, but is now vibrating again ... *ufff*

Ah well, who said anything in life was simple ;)

David :)

Not quite sure I would risk putting the G9 in but I think you could get some pretty unique shots of canary wharf.

Mitesh, have a look at something like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk …ZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem (external link)
it only has 1 slot so will reduce the vignette. Plenty of uk sellers on ebay of filters etc.

What I might do is shear off the extra filter holder slots on my holder to try and reduce the vignetting at the wider end. It seems I might need a better filter system for 24mm and wider for the 5D.

Ref Filters again.

Did you guys spot this thread about Lee Filters poor coatings batch and storage method/packs

Dave, your aerial shots are quiet something but as for using that little heli in canary Wharf.........well I suspect you or it would not last long in freedom. A camera is one thing but just think of the legal question marks over that little beauty flying its stuff around the Wharf area. Still at least you will have plenty of witnesses to take pictures of our bobbies doing their duty with you ;) Maybe even a "shot" of an SO-19 officer bringing it down!

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p

Ironic since I was just about to have a look on eBay. I might just shear mine down to size anyway and just use it as is. If I break it, no harm done.

Read that one too, bit of an odd thing. Not recommended for storage in microfibre cases. Wonder if there is now a warning on the packaging for the filters?

Decided to weed out my camera bag and keep the essentials. Its pretty lame at how ALL of this is pretty much essential. No additional lenses are going to be kept in and the 400D is pretty much sold.

This is my minimal gear now. :)

That's why I have more than one camera bag...one to store all of my gear in and one to carry around the little bits I need depending on what I'm doing. I don't think I could carry everything around and still raise my arms up high enough to take a photo ;)
