So where did you hide his lens ;)

Why does one assume that I had anything to do with it. I was going to lens him a lens and then though no since he would have tried to mount it.

I would ALWAYS have a lens mounted so I can be ready to start shooting. You never know what is waiting.

Ahh.. I'm going to watch my brother do a "race what you brung" day at Santa Pod at the end of next month (he's got a Pontiac). Just hope I manage to get some decent shots there.

Just checked the site, http://www.santapod.co.uk/e_rwyb.php (external link)

I will have to make the Sat 30th one unless I take a day off. Will see how it goes. Still some time away. Im sure others may wish to attend also.

My 1D is always attached to the 120-300. Usually my 20D, 580EX, 1.4tc, shoe cord, spare batteries are outside of bag, as it's simply too heavy. More recently I've been going out with just 17-40, 24-105 and 50mm, but my bag is over twice the needed size - and looks absolutely ridiculous.

Still, better too big than too small and being forced to leave gear behind :)

So you're not sure when you're going?

I've got the media pass for the weekend to Santa Pod, European Drift champs, but will probably only go on the Saturday.
Just found out today also have a R & R for work on Friday 11th (Matt, you text me about meeting, so looks like I can't do that now :()
Try and stay half sober, before an early start on Saturday 12th, and try and do air show on 13th! I'm considering hiring gear too, but I read on a website I would need to pay up front the full cost of lens if it's my first time! If I had that cash up front wouldn't I just buy one anyway :p

I originally got the weekend ticket incase no-one else was going, that way, I could choose the day that had the better weather. Seems like everyone is targeting Sunday though, I don't mind either way.

If you go to Lensesforhire.co.uk, Stuart doesn't usually charge a deposit for obvious photographers. I've never used him before for lens rental and he just asks a few questions on the online form to hire a lens... like your username here, any website you have, (if) memberships etc. I didn't pay a deposit, just the cost of the rental... EF 300 f/2.8, 2x TC and 1.4x TC = £145 for 3 days hire. I pick the lenses up on the 11th and then the courier collects on the 15th, so I get 3 FULL days hire and a bit extra. Will definately be using him again.

I did look at other lens hire places, but as you say, they want the cost of the lens as a deposit:evil: I might as well buy the lens if I had that sort of money! When I hire a CLK Merc, they don't ask me for £35,000 deposit!

EOS 6D, 135L, 24-105L, Mamiya RZ67pro2 and lenses

I've used Lensesforhire once before and it was an absolute pleasure :) I hired a Canon 10-22mm to see if I liked it enough to buy one (I did ;)). I popped up to Maidenhead to collect it from him at the train station, and dropped it back to the drop-off shop a couple of days later. I love the way he gives you the FULL number of days you've hired the kit for!

Great guy, can't recommend his services enough :)

Don't they usually charge your credit card and then refund it after you return the lens? I've rented cars and other things where they take a deposit on a paper slip with those old credit card machines that sounds like you're loading a shotgun. After you return it, the piece of paper is ripped up and destroyed. Bigger companies probably have an electronic way of doing this, but so long as you high enough limit on your card, you shouldn't notice it (unless you walk off with the lens ;))

Sounds good, looks like I will hire a 70-200 and a 1.4x soon :D

That seems a good price for 3 whole days!
One would be handy for me for the drifting on Saturday and then air show Sunday.

Don't think my limit would allow for a £6k lens - who even has those sort of limits . In NZ most peoples cards have NZ$5-7.5k max (I do, but that's only £2-3k max), at 20-23% interest.

I don't know what you're looking at, but my brother and I are thinking about going to the Sunday 27th (July) one.
