What is actually wrong with the current 5D?

Forget about there being a 5D Mk II, just get the 1D Mk III

Exactly. There's nothing wrong with it. It covers it's niche exactly.

It's still a lot of money for a old model. I've also been looking at the 1Dmk3 on Ebay Hong Kong sites (approx £2000), and have emailed Kerso for his price.

Lot of money for an old model? Well the only things I do not see it having are

- Faster FPS
- Weather sealing

What more could you really want to warrant spending more? Will the few new bells and whistles be worth the extra money? I would not like to think so.

Lenses do not depreciate in value over the years so I really don't see the same happening with a 5D.

I have a feeling that money is not an issue if people WILL embrace and buy the 5D mkII just because of the D300.

Depends how large the sensor is? 16.7 I'd say it would beat the 1DIII, and more and it could be less. I would love a 5D for landscape work, and just use my main 17-40L lens, or even get a 16-35II one day.

Canon now has a very wide range of bodies to choose from. Each has their strengths in features/cost.

If you want faster fps than a 5D, go up to the 1D Mk III or down to the 40D.
Weather-sealing - it'll always be the 1D series - it's one of the selling points.

It wouldn't surprise me if the 5D either continues being made in it's current spec, or just gets phased out as the xxD and 1D ranges close over the gaps.

Well I can think of the 1Ds for everything the 5D can do just a matching price tag. I suppose I can only rationalise it so much. Cannot change the world.
