Depends how large the sensor is? 16.7 I'd say it would beat the 1DIII, and more and it could be less. I would love a 5D for landscape work, and just use my main 17-40L lens, or even get a 16-35II one day.

17-40L on a 5D is so great! Need to think about a new filter system though since the Cokin P is not so great. :(

Well I suppose each to their own.

It will be nice to go out in the rain with the camera.

What is wrong with a rain jacket or a 1D?

I can see you point but there are so many alternatives. Yes the new 5D is going to be interesting and some people cannot wait but from what I have seen.

It just seems odd that people are willing to pay quite a bit more (going by assumption) for a few new features.

The 1Ds's, 1D's and 5D's and likkle D's are all quite different and all will take good photo's, but the more 'specialist ones interests become the more you appreciate the different qualities. My 5D and 17-40mm and Lee filter set belong together and it would be hard to come up with a better wide angle combo ... and a body that will also deliver awesome portraits and street shots with the right lenses if they are your thing. Mine has also delivered some awesome wildlife shots but the mk II N and mk III would be a better choice from a handling and speed point of view IMO. So one body isn't all 'round better that the other, just different tools. I can take pretty much the same shots with either but there is also a right body to use to extract maximum opportunity.

Dave.. You should know by now that the youth of today aren't happy with what they've got today, they want the promise of happiness with what tomorrow will hopefully bring them...

Ans so runs the mythology of the 5D Mk II...

As i've said i am also looking at the 1Dmk3. However, i want to go FF. I don't see a rain jacket as ideal. I feel that after the latest Nikon cameras, Canon are going to bring something special out with the next 5D.

And for me also I love Bokeh shots and a FF is better than a 1.3 crop

So far my 85L has been annoying, it has rather a poor min focus distance, but on a FF I bet it makes all the difference.

Pete I have a 1D MK3, just would love a FF

Mitish, I dont disagree, the current 5D is just great, But I in my head I agree with Buzzy I dont want to go backwards in age on a model the new 5D will be at least 14 MP if not 16 MP, I like Live view as well, many bells and whistles I do like, and it will almost be same menu/buttons as the 1D MK3

LOL. I like the way you mention the youth Pete. Im sort of on the fence about that one since im getting addicted back to 35mm. Its not the youth, its marketing. It happens everyday but we are just blind to it.

Its like the whole camera phone boom. MP3 CD players for your cars. Bells and whistles are always added and people WILL buy. It comes down to what you need and what you want.

- If my camera is not sealed, a rain jacket will do
- If I only have 3 FPS to play with, I will learn to time my shots
- If I need ISO6400, I will boost via processing

I think the 5D mkII will possibly ruin the image of what that camera once held. Bah I sound like a bleeding fanboy!

Ekkk What have I started in my moment of Bordom

My Trouble is just that Condyk, I love street and the use of FF in those situations, as you said each has its own use that will do a better job over the other.

Pete I don't think they will phase it out, they will bring out a FF model of some sort that is between the 1DS and a 1.3 crop. other wise the next logical move up for a FF users is a 1DS MKĀ£ and I dont think most would care to take that route.

Sorry, I must disagree with you there. There's nothing wrong with the bokeh of a 1.3 crop. And I've had a 5D. The 1D rocks.

Surely image quality cannot just keep getting better?

If I nail the exposure on my 5D, it looks completely amazing. Fair enough if "better" is just noise performance at high ISO. But I really don't see how it can get much better.

I'm happy with my prehistoric 5D!

Oh no, don't get me wrong while I am also looking forward to another 5D and keen to try one out. I just fail to see how people can pass over it or call it expensive for old technology since it still seems to be outperforming quite a lot of other bodies out there.

Glad I didn't go work for Nikon. They wouldn't have any customers left!

QUOTED IMAGE

Pete Did not say there was anything wrong with a 1D or any camera in fact, but I sure you must agree that if you are trying to get bokeh you have more chance with a FF over a crop.

Great shot, but then I have had some great shots with my 1D MK3 and lovely cream bokeh, even with my 100-400L

I think you can only really say that when you've owned several of the alternatives and really got to know your way around them ... plus, you need to define 'out-performing'. I enjoy both my bodies equally but for different reasons. Either can 'out-perform' the other according to what criteria I choose to apply.

So how does it rate against the latest Nikons?
