Oh no, don't get me wrong while I am also looking forward to another 5D and keen to try one out. I just fail to see how people can pass over it or call it expensive for old technology since it still seems to be outperforming quite a lot of other bodies out there.

Glad I didn't go work for Nikon. They wouldn't have any customers left!

I don't think it is expensive, it is a bargain in my books now, and you are right it is out performing most on the market certainly up to its price range.

I have on so many occasions in the last 6 months nearly bought one, in fact if CANON said no new 5D MK2 for another year or so maybe 18 months I would prob go buy one, but then maybe a 1DS MK3 :(

I think you can only really say that when you've owned several of the alternatives and really got to know your way around them ... plus, you need to define 'out-performing'. I enjoy both my bodies equally but for different reasons. Either can 'out-perform' the other according to what criteria I choose to apply.

Very true. Right too much of a discussion. I think this is my cue to get some sleep. I shall catch up with this tomorrow morning. :)

So how does it rate against the latest Nikons?

Still very well. If you excluded price and a few similar spec models next to each other and knew nothing of the age of them, would you be be able to tell which one is a few years old and which is a current model. You prob could via things like live view but picture wise? Would be a closer race.

I can totally understand why some people are waiting on the next generation of 5D's. When was the 5D released, 3 years ago? That's pretty old in terms of digital cameras and odds are pretty good that the next iteration won't in any way be worse (yes, I'm aware of the 1d MK III issues).

I'd like to get the upgrade of the 5D, but I don't think I'd ever buy a 5D. I like the larger screen, live view, the new menu layouts and things like that that come with the current generation of canons.

No need to get defensive about your camera, nobody is saying that the current 5D is in anyway bad. But if waiting a bit means you can upgrade a few features for a bit more cash then why not? I imagine it would be cheaper than buying a 5D now and then trying to sell it second hand to buy the new model when it comes out.

Of course, this all assumes that there's a new model coming out in the near future :)

17-40L on a 5D is so great! Need to think about a new filter system though since the Cokin P is not so great. :(

What is the problem with the Cokin P Series?
I have seen a couple of comments about the quality now..... What am i missing by not having Lee filters? :D

So where did you hide his lens ;)

elysium wrote in post #5791654 (external link)
What third photographer

Was so bad, they turned up, unpacked their body, mounted flash, and then undid the body cap since they didnt have a lens mounted. Rummaged through his bag, looked up and saw me. He carried on looking and turns out, he did not have a lens with him. Zipped his bag and left.

So back to my question. What third photographer ^_^

Thanks these made me laugh...........

I dont get it
The Farnborough website is advertising the tickets for use on either day at £23.00, Have i missed something important?

Also a train from Waterloo could be a good travel option, they do lay on various buses from the stations or i could take my bike.

:o I don't get what you don't get:o

I'm guessing that you think these prices are for Farnborough??? well, they're not.... these are for the RIAT airshow at RAF Fairford.

Or am I guessing wrong???

Its not the quality, it is the vignetting factor. When I tried Warren's 17-40L with a 3 slot filter holder, at 17mm you get noticeable vignetting from the holder. I had to shear 2 slots from my filter holder to stop it from doing so.

If you're looking for a good rumour page about the new 5D etc click here: http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/cameras/Canon_5d2_3d_7d.html (external link)

Keith compiles all the rumours from around the web and puts it in one spot. Post on the 14th June looks interesting - two FF models to be released, one with 14MP and 9 pt AF, while the other is 20MP and 19pt AF.

Other rumours abound on his page for 1D/40D etc...
