Dude you should give me a shout when you plan to go there, I work in Kingston so evenings during the week are cool.

Dont mind weekends either :)

No probs - I'll check out the weather for next week and meet you down at Pembrooke lodge one of the days. If anyone else fancies an dusk shoot, the park closes at 9pm for another 2 weeks I believe.

Posted by Mitesh - I need one myself BUT need to pick up the 24-70L first.

Hi Mitesh - I tried 3 coppies of the 24-70mm L - all were lacking in some respect of image definition and the weight was too much for such a limited focal length although the f2.8 bit was nice to have - so I settled for the 24-105 f4L IS instead - IMHO much more use - it stays on the camera most of the time.
I must try out the 70-200 f2.8L IS USM today before my grandson gets his hands on it. I had to rush to buy it to get the cashback.

I'm very surprised to hear that Ray. I can't fault my 24-70L, probably the best lens (IQ wise) I've ever owned... although my 70-200 is some sweet hotness too;)

Took my new 300mm for a test run on the way back home today.

Nice ... you can see the potential in the lens. All the great lenses have a similar magical quality. I was very close to buying one for my next Africa trip but I'd use it with a 1.4 and 2.0x TCon and then the IQ is so close to my 400mm it just isn't worth the extra money, size and weight. Lovely lens to own though.

Hmmm, thats interesting.

I tried out Kevin's "tank" at the meet and was pretty chuffed with it. If only the 24-105 was made as a 2.8. The range itself is not an issue, it would be more usable. I rarely find myself at the telephoto end

Well guys after much head-scratching, I've just pushed the button on a Gitzo GT1541T and a Gitzo GH1780 (non-QR). It's a lot more than I was considering spending on a tripod, but I consider it an investment for a lifetime ... so better to "buy good and buy once" as I say, than buy cheap and buy several and end up paying more in the long run.

You can see my gear list below to see what I will be putting on this baby.

Cheers :)

Looks good David:) When I saw "Gitzo" I thought...hmmm... money! I was right:) I'm sure it'll be great combo for treking around with.
