Thanks for the summary guys about the various airshows - I must note them on the calendar!

I agree with Scuff the Dunsfold event last year as a first time visitor was very nice once we managed to get there!!!!!!!

Oh AFAIK there is in 2008 the Brooklands Centenary of Flight celebration and unlike the Brooklands 100th in 2007 I sincerely hope they get the flight permissions sorted out properly.

Here is the MkVb Spitfire seen at Dunsfold to share

Pete- nice shots- was that with a 300mm f2.8 or f4.

Scuff- bit too fast shutter I think. For Spits, I think I shoot at 320/s

Great calendar link - makes me want to get an airband receiver what with the frequencies being listed ~ anyone recommend a not too expensive one?

Re: shutter speeds - I try to get under 1/300 whenever possible though in my limited experience much depends on the plane/engine/engine speed at the time of the shot. Having said that the later Mk of the Seafire from the BoBMF was taken at 1/320s but this has the 5 bladed prop and if recall what I was told has the Griffin engine not the Merlin.

Whereas the Mitchell B25 was at 1/80s

My personal choice is enough prop blur to just lose the individual blades but I takes what I can get ;)

:)

Hi Scuff

Just out of interest I have been wondering about the selling of such aircraft images. As a paying visitor to airshows (and motorsports events?) I thought it was term of ticket entry and access that commercial photography was prohibited. Any guidance of that front is very welcome as I would love to offer mine for sale :)

Edit: and on that note as the aircraft are 'recognisable' what about the aspect of a Property Release ? Or do I worry too much!

Fixation - http://www.fixationuk.com/rental.htm (external link) - appears to be the cheapest with good weekend rates.

Calumet - http://www.calumetphoto.co.uk …ui.if=text/rentaldest.jsp (external link) - also do rentals.

I'm not sure what either do in regards to pick up & returns - I assume you can courier it at expense, or take a bus/train/car into London and return it on time.

EDIT: I should say these are based in London - I don't know of any in the SE area

Great spitty shot.

Heh, great shot, is that the air museum in Cambridgshire?

I used to go glider flying there when I was a student, they had a lot of old planes their but it was before they made it more public friendly.

One had to keep ones eyes open for all the fast military jets taking off and landing at the time.

One enduring memory was when I was doing by turn as ground crew, one of the Spitfire pilots was out for a practice run and decided to use us for a practice strafing run - quite intimidating even without real machine guns.

On a different subject, anyone else noticed spring is coming far too early this year.

We have had Primroses out in the garden for at least a week, lots of buds on bushes and Robins that have paired up early.

Hope we don't get another very cold snap.

Hi Lester

Both the Spitfire and the Mitchell were taken at the Wings n Wheels Display at Dunsfold in Surrey.

The Brooklands I am refering to is near Weybridge in Surrey.

The BoBMF flight is I think stationed at Coningsby In Lincs the same base that others here at POTN have posted great shots of the fast jets.

Sorry if I misunderstood any of your question(s).

:)

Yes, spring does seem to be coming early. We also have bulbs poking through already! And yes the primroses are 'smiling'.

Hi Wazza

Lovely 'soft' early morning light on the pier nicely evocative of its glory days gone by, made all the more poignant with the warning sign on it.

Looking at the EXIF 0.8s @ f22 I was a little surprised how overall soft it looks ~ could not see any point in critical focus but is does sharpen up nicely without losing that nice creamy water 'look'.

:)

PS Glad you liked the planes :D
