Hi all! :D

I took 3258 photos at the Wings and Wheels airshow and I've finally finished processing the ones I liked best! It was a labour of love I tell ya!

Cheers!

David :)

PS. By the way, if anyone can help me name some of the 'untitled' cars & motorbikes I would be most grateful!

Mitesh - Looks good :) Although the blacks seem rather crushed? Anything you can do about that or has it happened at the developing stage?

Neal - Hehe that's one laid-back seal! :D Love it :)

Richard - Abso-flipping-lutely stunning!! The 400 F2.8 is one heavy-ass lens but it produces incredible results! Looking forward to the rest :)

David :)

Looks like bit of the contast was lost during scanning. I will pull out my Canon scanner and try the negative directly and see how that fares out.

Wow - great shots from everyone. Looks like you had a great trip on Saturday!

Interesting thing happened to me - my mate who I'm buying a 18-70 off, isn't back from hols, and what started as 'a couple of shots' of a couple whose engagement party I went to yesterday, turned into full formal portraits, then shots at the party itself as well. Only problem was that I only have a 70-300VR. Fortunately, my local Jessops had a Sigma 18-125 for £140, so reserved on web, and got it for £134 with the 5% discount voucher :D. Oh, and this was the first time I've done something like this for myself (as opposed to assisting another 'tog).

For what it is, it's a nice little lens! AF is a little slow and buzzy, but not too noisy, and stopped down, images seem fine. Granted all the shots I took with it were with studio lights or flash, but they all had nice contrast, and detail. Will now keep it until I can compare it to the 18-70. . .

Is it just me or are others getting annoyed with so many threads about the 50D being useless or 30 new topics a day about the 5D mkII (over exaggerated). As much as I am hoping to see a new 5D, do all these annoying topics justify the impatience.

People are threatening to jump ship day in day out, im getting really disappointed not by Canon but at the fact is people cannot contain themselves. What if Canon release the 5D mkII, will people cry that they just bought a 5D, what if Canon don't EVER release one, will people tell others to "wait" for the 5D mkII still? What has this world come to. :(

After my days out photgraphing animals at the weekend I'm deffo getting the wildlife bug.

I'm looking into taking pictures of deer rutting in Richmond park in coming months. Does anyone have any experience of that? I'm thinking about a group outing early one morning.

Think futura (Andrew) did with a long lens and got some cracking results. Think it would be an interesting trip. Need to get there early and drive between car parks or hop on a bike.

Bit of a massive walk between sections but plenty of wildlife for free.

Mitesh, there is a massive difference between the 5D and 5D mk2 release you knew for one when you bought yours one would succeed soon, also the 5D is 3 years old or there about again you knew it was well over due for replacement..... also you are getting a 5D at a massive discount these days, where as a new 5D would be £1600-00 upwards, the 50D is being released for less than the 40D was.

I don't own a 40D now, (In Fact I upgraded form the 40D, for better low noise now almost wish I had not) but tbh I do feel for people who bought it recently or even a yr ago to have it superseded by such an upgraded body,,,,,,,,,,,,, in fact lets even compare it to a 1D MK3, in my books it has everything the 1D MK3 should have had 15mp etc.

So personally I am somewhat annoyed at Canon, especially after all the 1D MK3 focus issues,,,,,, CANON quite clearly have on interest of their existing Customer base, only on getting new sales over Nikon.

But we will see how it all pans out.

If Canon don't release a new 5D before the end of the year, I will either pursue Film on a FF, or get a Nikon D700
Canon have only themselves to Blame, in there Greed and poor excuses all this would not exist if they had released a great 5D upgrade 6 months ago (and easlily could have), instead of telling us there is no competition so no replacement needed....... TBH I am pretty peed off at Canon atm

I agree with what you are saying and I know Canon are cocking up but do we honestly need so many threads with the same old comparisons or complaints every few days. Just seems to be getting out of hand. I can understand that people are gagging for new cameras but there is a limit.

Canon seem to be pulling out the stops with the 50D - if the AF was as good as the D300, you'd be laughing. All this fierce competition between Nikon and Canon is really helping us 'togs!

Hi all,

I've been to Richmond quite a few times. Although dawn would be fantastic, it can be a bit of a mission finding the deer (they tend to go about in groups). I normally take my bike so it only takes half an hour or so to scout about. A dusk shoot might be a bit easier because at least we can track the deer before hand and just wait around for the right light. Last time I went, I had about an hours worth of good backlighting.

Lenswise you can get very close to them so you don't need anything too long. I shot with a combination of 300 and the 70-200, I didn't really my converters at all.

We could easily to Richmond park and something else - like a normally drive though Richmond park to get to Kew or the Wetlands. I would have suggested the butterfly house but thats closed down.

It's not just you.
I have a similar opinion which is why i asked why folks were so quick to migrate to Nikon.
I can definately see a technology war between Canon and Nikon now that the later has raised it game and at the moment apper to have a bit of a lead.
Should be good for purchasers becuase traditionally Nikon have been cheaper than Canon model for model, and given how good the D700 looks it doesn't look like they intend to charge premiums despite having very good technology.

I can't really see the point of trying to keep pace with either of them, you would need very deep pockets and be prepared to change your Body every 5 mins (will be like trying to keep up with Intel)
I think i will look for a low actuation count 1Ds MKII or find out how much Canon would charge to replace the shutter assy, and spend the difference on top quality lenses.
