Ok guys I need to get a 50mm f/1.8, do I go for the MKII or look out for a MKI, which I believe has the metal mount as opposed to the plastic, ........i may be talking a load poo, but hey, whats your experience with them...

Victor

If you can, skip both and go for the 50 1.4.

The 50 1.8 mII will be cheaper to be honest and the main difference between them is the mkI has a metal mount and the scale, mkII does not. Optically, there is not much in it.

Actually, out of the two, I prefer the f/1.8 :). What I'd really like to try is the more expensive Sigma 50mm f/1.4. Victor, I know I have Nikon gear in my sig, but that's a recent thing - I was a Canon shooter for 3 years or so - I only recently saw the dark side calling ;).

Strange because I noticed that too. The Sigma 50 1.4 seems bit more pricey than the Canon counterpart.

I think someone with a lot of time needs to compare them both on a side by side test to see the differences.

Well, dpreview are doing reviews of the Canon, Nikon, Pentax, and Sigma 50mm f/1.4 lenses - here's their conclusion on the Sigma http://www.dpreview.com …igma_50_1p4_c16/page6.asp (external link)

Oh, and excitingly, Nikon are due to be releasing a new version of their 50mm f/1.4 - partly to add SWM (USM) :D.

Yes, but noise levels aren't great - they smear a lot of detail - sample images on dpreview.

Like I said in the other A900 topic, the servicing for DSLR's is another reason why I go for a Canon. Canon is a dedicated optics company (with other departments respectively) and their servicing will always be pretty much spot on the issues.

With Sony, the department that deals with DSLR's also dealers with camcorders and portable audio products and are just getting to grips with lenses and bodies so I wouldnt be too thrilled just yet.

Hopefully, we get a test product soon for me to have a play about with but from shots already, high ISO performance is still behind, even at ISO800 onwards.

With the amount of time they have spent on this camera, it should have been much better.

Woohoo, I just got another request for a wedding reception in late Nov. Might be asking someone if they want to be a co-shooter. Will update once I have more info.

Yeah was going to drop him a line, as he will always do a bit of a better deal direct. Just wanted thoughts over the MKI v MKII....

Thanks
Victor

Someone said to me my web site was confusing, do you guys think it is confusing, to look at my photos, or just to generally look at the site and think "wtf shall I look at", or is it better to file photos in gallery's that are itemised, I.E. like all bird images go in a bird gallery, and not date related to a trip etc.
