I think the running cost may mean the car a is a special one for special journeys only. It's going to hurt you, but, at least you are a better more economic driver than my friend.

Have you ever driven a modern diesel? It must have a good turbo. They do not drive or sound like tractors these days.

Yay! I've been a convert for 6 years now. No regrets. Diesels love hills and with a good turbo and a few horses under the belt, really pull and out accelerate petrol cars. Quite surprising! And better mpg ...sorry MadProf :( .

The thing is, turbo power start at c.2000 revs, ie low revs and power is immediate. With petrol cars, the power comes in a lot later 3500-6000 revs, so it takes longer to reach those revs to get the power. At traffic lights, oohh dear, I can be quick off the mark

I'm a really sad git aren't I?

I'm sorry but diesels are still tainted in my head about being either a company car or just sensible. I am none of these so sits a 2.4l petrol under my bonnet :D

That depends on the boost pressure, a petrol car with a low pressure turbo gets to full boost much quicker, my car gets there at 2500 RPM and petrol engines are lighter so accelerate to 2500 RPM quicker than diesels, by 3000RPM all 260 Horses are available.
Agree with the comments on modern oil burners though, the 530D is an attractive option ooomph and economy very tempting.
Ohh and i can get my EOS in the boot to keep the thread on subject

About £0.68 - that's VERY expensive by NZ standards.

I remember about 4 years, it was around 30p

You pay a lot on tax! NZ does too.

I hate to see American's bitchin about prices, and how they can't drive across the city, because it's gone up to a whopping... 20p?

Been stuck at 103.9 at the Shell on the way to work for nearly a week now. Sucks when you see comparisons like that.

I got rid of my '02 Mondeo tdci last year in favour of my present '54 focus st170.... felt glad of the change 2 days ago when I saw the Northumberland Heath Total garage displaying Diesel £1.11:evil:

$1.709 at moment
an exchange rate of 2.54
= 67p
That's for 91 gas.
95 is 1.759
98 = 1.819 (ran my last car, a Corolla 4AGE on that)
