i purchased a 40d the week it came out at a local best buy in las vegas. i have taken 1000 shots on it, and never had a problem with 28-135 and 10-22. i put on a brand new 50mm 1.4 and i get the error9 every 10 or so shots. i do have a bge2 battery grip on it, but removing the grip did not stop the error messages. do i send it to canon, or should i try to use the best buy 4 yr warranty thing to see if they will swap it. my serial number starts with 0420 also. thoughts? how long was the turn around time from canon? thanks guys!

ok that 420 is a problem series but still how long ya owned the 50mm? new? could be the lense too. check the contacts and everything is tight on the camera. if other lenses dont have issue i be more on that lense in particular. ussually what i read a 2 week turn around from canon. i personally would not allow best buy to work on it cause they just take it to therre repair outlet. if ya can get a new exchanged unit i try for that.

I have a 420 series and have not had any problems, so not so sure I'd call it a problem series, but haven't researched it that much either. If two lenses are working and one isn't try cleaning the contacts on the one that got the error message. Not sure what else to tell you--guess it could be either, but sounds more like a lens problem to me.
