I quite like these shots I took tonight as the sun was setting, the position was perfect, noticed the rising moon in the reflection of the water, managed to re-orientate myself so as not to Spook the Heron.
CC welcomed on these.

Ira thanks for replying.
yes sir I am really enjoying this lens, the IS is a big help on shots that would not have been possible with my Sigma 70-300 DG Macro.
1/10 of a second on one of these hand held, as you can tell I am very happy.

I did take my tripod along just in case, but it wasn't necessary.
The lens is seriously proving itself.
The only thing I'm not happy with is the high ISO.
The only way I would be able to overcome this is to use the tripod and remote release.

Thanks Reyno I appreciate the feed back, as I was saying my only gripe is the High ISO, but I am sure a 1D MkIII would be good for this type of shot.

SAS
Thanks for the compliment, I can't wait to print one of these out and hang on the wall, but that will have to wait until I get a decent 11x17 printer.

Karen.
I managed to get the shot as I was heading back to the car, I was going to call it a night when I saw the heron, the Sun was just below the horizon behind me and I noticed the moon, I was hoping to get the Heron in the foreground and the moon in the sky but the moon was already up too high and I only had my 100-400 and camera with me, I was wishing I had my 10-22 for the shot but I left the rest of my gear at home, moving around just trying different things when I noticed the reflection in the water.
So I thought ok lets try this and well here are the results.
I'm very happy about these shots.

Steve
Thanks for the kind words. keeping the lens still for these was kind of tough.
Light was fading really fast, I was thinking of Bumping to ISO 3200(H) but the noise starts getting pretty bad at 1600, definitely have to have the exposure correct, I don't think I have ever used 3200.

Artur
Thanks Buddy, I have learned a valuable lesson, just as you think there is no hope for the current conditions, stick around you might be pleasantly surprised with what you might find.
This same Heron flew by me on the footpath on the way to the car and when I got to where I had been photographing a 4ft gator earlier this evening, that same Heron was now 12ft from me, standing on a hand rail to a viewing platform, I just caught a glimpse of it's head in the corner of my eye and it stopped me dead in my tracks, it was way to dark to even grab a pic but I was thinking bloody typical now he wants a pic.
Thanks for the comments I really appreciate it.

Thanks Gary I appreciate you taking the time to look and post.

Najo
Your absolutely right on that one, at first I was thinking how can I get a shot of this GBH that not everyone has seen before, as soon as I saw the reflection of the moon, it struck me, view it with a different light.
Thank you for taking the time to look and post, I appreciate everyone's feedback.

Now I'm wondering how am I going to top this one.
