Hello all:

In posting this new thread I'm trying to marry two common thread topics that I've been browsing (buying a lens and concern over dust). Unfortunately I can't seem to wrap my head around putting the two together.

I work in dusty conditions - mostly outdoors and want to buy a good quality WA or UWA lens for my 30D. Should my considerations be focused on lens construction and the ways dust might be minimized from getting into the lens (i.e. L-series?) or is it more important to ensure that I am storing, protecting and using the lens in a manner that minimizes dust.

Thanks in advance to all who reply?

16-35 I or II or 17-40 would be your best bet but they are not UWA...I personally run the 10-22 and absolutely love it but everytime it comes out it has a filter on it...

The 'L' lenses are probably going to be more resistant to dust etc. although they may need a filter to fully seal the front element (The 17-40 certainly does anyway)

The 10-22mm is a great quality lens but it may not have the same sealing as the L's.

Of course the camera also determines how weather-tight it all is, I'm not sure how the 30D holds up in this matter compared to a '1' series body but I doubt Its weather sealed at all.
