Wow, just looked at Sigma's site, and was suprised to see a ton of new lens revision that include HSM! Very cool! It's about time Sigma put HSM into more of their lenses. Smart move Sigma.

EDIT:Oh no! It appears they are only for N!KON mounts only! Says so on the product pages. I wonder why they did this :(

The exception for that HSM thing is with the lenses where it is not a revision though.

Odd: My 10-20mm has HSM... Why isn't it listed on that rundown?

But it is nice to see HSM in more of their lenses. I wonder, do they have different types of HSM like Canon has different types of USM?

One word: NOINK

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

For the D40 users. D40 is the first Nikon w/o a focusing motor in the body. So you need Nikon AFS lenses or Sigma HSM.

Bingo....we have a winner.

Nikon user's like to tout their backwards compatability of the mount, but this is really a will-o-the-wisp. You need a monster chart to understand how the really old stuff is/is not backward compatible and Nikon is now releasing new bodies that don't work with huge chunks of their lenses.

At least D40X owners will be able to use Sigma lenses it seems.

Wow... that really sucks. What a garbage way of doing things. I knew Nikon did that, but it never really clicked until now.

so how does that explain HSM motors on nikon lenses and not on canon lenses.

does the nikon necessarily have to have HSM motors instead of the coffee grinders they install on some canon lenses?

Good question Ed, seems like once the add HSM it should be no sweat to offer on all mounts. Maybe the Canon mount lenses are coming shortly....they did Nikon first due to the D40 demand.

That's my best guess.

I'd like to think that too, but the Nikon version has been announced and out for months now. You'd think that if they were going to do a Canon mount version, they would have at least have announced it in time for the holiday season.

Well the Nikon versions of the Sigma lenses are way more expensive. So to be competitive in the low price segment they leave them out of the Canon version and sell them cheaper. Good or bad, you decide!
