Thanks to to the mods & hacks sticky thread on this bbs , I was able to find a really interesting post about building my own light box and over the past few evenings have put my very own together and took a quick shot with it to see how it works at diffusing the light and shadows.

This was shot with one 25 watt light overhead.

C&C appreciated.

Cheers!

Beautiful. I like the off-white background.

Beautiful. I like the off-white background.

Thanks! :)

I think the off white was actually coming from not using enough light and me not doing a proper job of achieving a better white balance ...maybe just beginner's luck that the shot came out half decent! ;)

I have stepped up my lighting on the box now with a 100 watt light and paying closer attention to white balance and brightness and things seem to be falling into place...I hope!

Here's one more taken with better light...I'm still having trouble getting the entire subject into sharp focus using my EF50 f/1.4 @f/9 and still getting blur where I don't want it. Is this a settings issue or is this lens just naturally soft around the edges?

Cheers! :)

You send that lens over to me and I'll show you how to take a proper picture of it! ;)

Thanks, all the same!

I just found a good site on the web that showed me how to figure it out.
