These shots from the seven start Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai was taken tonight with G9. (No, I was not staying in that hotel, mine is *** :(.) This hotel could be the most photographed hotel in the world.

1 - HDR, about 50% crop of 3 bracketed (+/-2) jpegs (I was too lazy to process RAWs ...).

IMAGE: http://www.laasanen.net/potn/dubai-hdr2b.jpg

2 - HDR, close to full frame, same bracketing as in #1, also from jpegs.

IMAGE: http://www.laasanen.net/potn/dubai-hdr1s.jpg

3 - The last for fun, b&w conversion from one jpeg, no sharpening (I forgot that).

I like the first two, but the last has too much blur/noise which would be Ok if there was anything of interest there for me. I just got a G9 and am looking forward to using it soon. I think Tommy is getting one too, so we'll be a bunch of P&S shooters in Africa :-)

Thats one odd looking hotel.

It's supposed to resemble the sail of a sailboat. My dad recently went there for business and was just in awe. There's even a helipad on the top!

I'm in awe of not only this hotel, but Dubai in general. It's basically like a city many times the size of, though just as flashy as Miami, being built overnight.

The first two are awesome! Is staying in the hotel out of your budget? It's way outta mine.

The goal is not to change your subjects, but for the subject to change the photographer.

This proves I'm an ordinary mortal in terms of photographing. ;)

You can see the helipad on the pictures: that UFO shaped platform on top of the building.

Lucky you! You must post some shots from the interior as well.

Thanks Tareq. (Now I'm back in Finland, it zero degree and snowing lightly - quite a difference.)

Yes, just guess how many times. (But I have heard you might be able to get reasonably (?) priced packaged tours from UK to that hotel. Not sure if that is still true.)

Interesting. Im just deciding whether to get the G9 or go with the Ricoh GX100 for the wider lens. From #1 & #2 looks like good low light capabilty.

I don't know anyting about Ricoh, but if you are happy to shoot with low ISO, then G9 might be a good camera for you. (What I take next with me is either gorillapod or beanbag. It was not easy to find a good support for long exposures.)
