Yes! Thanks Tareq, you reminded me to get gels and a reflector. Adding that to my list.

I don't have a battery pack yet, but I did buy a few sets of rechargeable batteries. I know it won't refresh as fast, but that's a luxury I can go without for now.

One last question: What's the benefit of getting a Mini and a Flex over getting 2 Flex units instead, besides the extra $20 and size? Would it be wiser to get two Flex units if the size doesn't bother me? The reason I'm thinking about this is due to the fact that the Mini uses a watch type battery, while the Flex uses AA batteries. I have a bunch of rechargeables to use for the Flex.

Anyone else want to throw in their input also? Much appreciated.

Honestly i dunno, i have two flex and really i didn't try to trigger a flash with one of them instead of mini, but i am sure there is something with mini to be considered, but even though, nothing wrong to go with 2 Flex units, i was going to say 2 Flex units but maybe that the extra bucks and size could be an issue for you ;)

Haha just wondering, really. Guess I'll be saving up for a Mini and Flex!

Oh ONE last thing I forgot to ask; how long do the batteries last? The watch battery in the mini seems like a pain to have to keep buying.

Do both run down at about the same time, or does either the Flex or Mini usually run out of battery first?

I dunno, but the battery in that flex run before that mini because the battery in that mini is still working and didn't run yet, and i was planning to buy one more battery just in case.

Thanks, Tareq. I just noticed your gear and looked at some of your shots and.. DAMN. I didn't know I was getting answers from a PRO pro. Again, thanks for the help. Probably going to need to invest in backup watch batteries too. :D

Cheers pham :D no words necessary it's a pleasure to receive a thumbs up from great photogs- period.

I was wondering how you set up your lights for this shot, I really like it. Do you have any advice for getting everyone to smile/not blink in large groups like these?

sorry so late of a reply, i am in chicago for 3 days, so computer time is limited.. ha ha..

i used for the group shot ab1600, @ 1/8-1/4 power cant remember.. thus the redish tint on their faces..

but the 64inch PLM was used, and i had my camera just pushing against the edge of the PLM.

PLM was about 8 feet away.. i and i think i shot this at f 7.1 to get everybody as much in focus as possible

now to get everybody eyes open, you can do 2 things.

1. shot alot of shots. like 4-7 of the same pose.
2. move heads off of a good photo and place into the greater better smiled photo..

i have been known to do both. my experience with the 5dmkII, the focus isn't that great at night so i always have my 580 on top for focus assist.

i use the catus V4's to trigger, so on the side of my camera is the trigger connected via pc sync. and it hangs on a velcro pad that i custom made to my grip.

that way the hot shoe on top can be filled with the 580 to help with focus

thanks guys !
