Very nice image. How many times did you have to do it before getting this shot? :D

It depends, maybe how many hours in front of Photoshop maybe ;)

There are many tricks in photography but too bad some of these tricks you have to take risks or be responsible of any damage or lose in items [LIquids spoiled, glass crashes,....]

Well, in that case, I think the risk was worth it. :)

I took a few chimp shots to get the lighting right on the bottle in the upright position.
Then took me 7 shots (including the one i kept) to get the liquid and the bottle the way i wanted it to. Was having troubles getting my roommate to hold his hand where i wanted it, and he kept moving the front end of the bottle towards my lens so he was making it a pain for me haha. He was more concerned with getting back to his 360 game.

I wanted a perfect fluid pure from the bottle and he kept moving the end to much down so it was coming out to fast and bubbling out in random streams, which wasn't creating the fluid movement I wanted. We finally got the fluid in one shot and the bottle the way i wanted in another. So with a little editing the two become perfect together :)

Strobist
50mm f/1.4
1/200 - f/4.0 - 50 mm - ISO250
580ex2 shot into Apollo Wescott 28" Softbox @ 1/2 power, zoomed to 80mm, camera right.
45" white reflector behind bottle and hand.

I originally had another idea for this image that involved a glass at the bottom of the photo. So i took a few shots of a glass cup as well, but i don't light glass that often and wasn't happy with the way my glass looked compared to the dr. pepper. So i just went with the pure elegance of the Dr. P! It was heart breaking having to waste a Dr. P though ... devastating.

Most important is that it did work at the end, that is worthy as it is said.

Nice shot though!

Wow! It would have taken me a hundred shots and I doubt it would have been that good by the time I got tired. lol Excellent info, thanks for sharing it and the image! I'm just glad you didn't use Vanilla Coke, then we'ld have problems. lol :D

I bet it wouldn't be THAT bad ha.
I used a large pitcher at the bottom out of frame to hold the pop as he poured it out and lots of towels surrounding our area heh.

Hmmm. I changed them. Sorry to be reposting the same pics but it really helps me to get some constructive criticism. I get the feeling sometimes that I am scared of over exposing. Just need to keep with the histogram and chug along.

I think these are better. Watch your RGB histogram as well. Don't blow out the red channel. Once you do you lose that color information. This is something I recently learned. :o

I recently started adventuring into lighting with my 580EXII and man, it's a whole new world. Here's my contribution...I don't think I need to state the set up, lol, it's obvious but I will anyway... 580EXII on camera, bounced off ceiling, shot into large mirror.
I just started reading (strobist.com) and POTN in trying to learn more of what I can do with my single strobe before I start to invest into other lighting gear. The contributions on this thread and on this forum are absolutely priceless, you gals/guys rock!

honestly i think you live in an area with the most consistently beautiful sunsets... i've seen maybe 5 or 6 this entire year like the ones you post every single time!
