Great thread. Just wish I could contribute to it, but I don't have a flash :-(

Got a light bulb??

Actually, I didn't mean to limit it to strobes, but more to single light sources. I edited the first post to reflect this. It's more about using the single light source creatively than the actual light source used. But no, sorry, the sun doesn't count as a single light source for those that are thinking in that vein :)

So yea, grab a light bulb, lamp, etc, and use it as the only light source in a darkened room and have at it :)

Excellent shots all. I'd love to see more. You definitely are hitting the mark on the purpose of the thread. Lots of drama in the images.

Thank you! I just got my b1600 strobe today, and it's great. By the way, the 60" umbrella is pretty nice too, though I don't have a softbox to compare it to.

I used the hikers headlamp as the only light source.

I really like the first three elderly subjects, especially the first.

Thanks Stephen.
They were part of a series I did of retired folks that volunteer at one of the hospitals I do work for.

You know I really like the guy with his arms slightly folded. That is a one strong portrait. All three the you posted are good but man that is one of the strongest portraits I've seen in a while.
