I want to apologize for starting POTN World War III. I was simply trying to be funny...I tend to respond to tense situations with humor. I was not intending to be critical in any way, nor was I wanting to start the feud back up. I just want y'all to know that, since it could be perceived I was doing that. I honestly did not think the bickering would start up again!

Now, for me, I do not critique much in this thread for several reasons. One, I am just learning to use OCF. I do troll this, and other lighting threads, to learn from others. Secondly, I live in a town of 700...so I do not have as much of an opportunity to shoot live people like some of you do. If I had more opportunity, I would shoot more, and post more, because I want the critique to learn and become better. Lastly, an issue everyone has, is time...I just don't have (or make?) the time to shoot and PP like I want to.

Again, I apologize for stirring the feud back up. Please understand it was not my intent. Now...back to the images!

You didn't start anything....so don't sweat it. I don't think anyone thought that your comment was innappropriate. It seems it all dates back to the first image and the comment about the clock being distracting. Either way, as far as I can tell....you did nothing wrong, so don't harbor any guilt.

imho, no matter who was at fault, it's time to bring this thread back to normalcy.

It's a great image, Ryan, except the black line coming out of her head at the top is very distracting to me. :p

Sorry couldn't help it, seeing the scuffle that happened earlier! LOL I am completely joking, btw! I was gone for a week, and come back to trolling this thread, and there is the drama from the hands of the clock being mentioned. Way too funny!

Yours and Pham's images are definitely an inspiration to me and I hope to get to that level some day! I just couldn't help stirring the pot a little!:lol::lol::p

noticed the same...time to bust out the clone tool or context away fill :P depending on your version and perfected method.

And +1 on inspiring lighting work for rohicks and Pham

If i was looking for praise then I wouldn't of agree with it dumbass.

Nowhere did I say even from his first post about the clock that his "critique" was a pointless observation. "I found it laughable" as you can check my post that someone would point that out and then everyone acted like i "jumped down his throat" insulting him when all i said was "srlsy". Maybe instead of "srlsy" I should of put "that is laughable".

It's quite hypocritical for some to come here and judge everyone's photo when he has nothing post himself. There are no rules except for what the admins or mods enforce.

Did somebody call? ;)

I see things seem to be back on track again so carry on. :)

Now, on this cheery note....back to pictures.

QUOTED IMAGE

WTF?...do we also share photos on this thread? ...I thought it was for only ****??

Funny, the most shocking thing to me is why no mods deleted/stopped the few insulting comments quickly??

In all seriousness though, awesome shots above! :D...and nice to see that we're all back on track!

Great, thank you! I just wanted to make sure everyone realized that.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a hotshoe foot adapter to use with me 430ex? The one I purchased from Paul C. Buff was made of cheap plastic and broke when my lightstand blew over in some strong winds. I'd prefer something made of metal.

Agreed, spectacular, especially considering the snow...I always have a hard time with that!

Check out the ones at flashzebra.com I'm not sure what they are made of, probably plastic as that's pretty much standard. But Lon there stands by his products and doesnt sell crap.

haha....nope, that was not by chance at all. I would've likely been using the gold deflector on her whenever possible for that very reason. In general, I'm very hesitant to use gold reflectors (either the fold-up kind, or the deflector kind) as I think it can be a bit artificial/fake looking....however beautiful dark skin like that just eats it up (in all the right ways).

Give it time....shadows, direction, and characteristics of light will soon be all you see. The number of times that my wife catches me staring off into the distance at some "intriguing light" is downright embarrassing.

The joy of holding the lightpole goes to my assistant, Devin Frederick (www.devinfrederick.com (external link)) who is truly one of the most driven people I've ever worked with. His experience is relatively limited (was a pro motocross rider prior to this) but he wants it so badly....and I love that energy/effort. A good assistant is by far the best tool (pun fully intended) that travels in my car, as he helps me position lights in places/directions just not possible with light stands. (the ability to have an an assistant instantly feather to one direction or be able to move with the model, is truly priceless)

EDIT: oh, and thank goodness the light was coming from the left, because if it was coming from the right that would've meant my assistant was falling off the building, and his girlfriend would've been really unhappy with me.

Thanks Jeff (and Robert) for the info/time. Also good to catch the bit of info about the deflectors. My kids (see the avatar) are all black/African American & bi-racial. Was your assistant doing the air traffic controller thing with a light pole and a deflector?

You didn't start it, so don't stress. C&C is cool.

Tharaka, really nice shot. PPL from other parts of the world should realise we don't see snow down here unless we drive a few hours into the mountains, so it's pretty hard to practice on, making the shot even better.

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)
