Strange then how with this shot it seems he has something wrong? imagine new members see this shot then they will think it is not done properly, and to be honest i didn't look at his others posts to judge his skill.

I explained why something is wrong. At times we all lose objectivity and take a technique or use of a plug-in too far.

I can't even begin to count the number or times I worked on an image for a while, stepped away from the computer and then came back to it and had one of those "what was I thinking"? moments.

The shot is executed well. The OP knows how to use Photoshop, layers, masks, etc. I believe he just lacked the objectivity to see the unnatural looking skin of over-softening in some areas.

I don't think it matters what new members think. This is not a tutorial and no one is saying "hey, do what this guy does, he's an expert". Suppose the effect was intended. No matter how much you or I don't like it, if it is what the artist intends then no one has to like it, or understand it or copy the technique.

That's the beauty of art. There are no rules.

OMG..

i have been away for 1 week and i flipped thru some amazing images.. too many names to mention... (you know who you are - wink wink)

seems i will be posting in here more often.. the off camera flash thread is for speedlights and now i have the alien bees so catagorically i should be posting in here.

the korrektor him self with all the power ever needed in his hand there 5D and 70-200 2.8 IS and the knowledge of off camera lighting - power to do anything you will ever need in portrait photography !! BTW there wasn't anything he didn't already know that i know about OCF - infact he could teach this stuff.

LOL. I knew when I posted the pic it would get some comments. I've been hanging out on Model Mayhem and the pics that win the Pic of the Day are usually extremely post processed.
How did I end up with this version? I posted a more realistic version on the model's Facebook and no comments. But when I put up this heavily processed version, all her friends loved it and were "facebook friending" me for photoshoots. Personally, I like all styles- realistic to photomanipulation.

Here's one less processed:

IMAGE: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3599/3555240620_ddf866be95_o.jpg

This pic got 22 comments on Flickr. The heavily processed pic I posted earlier got 98 comments. I think there's a difference between mainstream viewers and photographers. :)

ha ha.. dude.. it is like this: photography is like art.. there is no wrong and no right.. unless you totally jack up the photo and lighting.. of which you did not..

i personally like the artsy heavily processed photos for the impact..

others can have their opinion.. but i respect all photogs here..

Not sure if this counts, as I used a SB-28 to trigger the main flash (SB-26). It was aimed right at it at 1/64 though, so it couldn't have impacted the image much.

Text from my flickr (external link):

Strobist:

SB-28 aimed at SB-26 to fire it
SB-26 high cam right shot thru white umbrella at 1/2

I got my SB-26 yesterday and I was so disappointed in it. It fired like once every twenty times! I completely lost faith in it and even dropped it to the floor. I was really sad. Useless, dumb flash, what a stupid optical trigger, doesn't even fire when I burst the other flash like a mad at it.

Then I realized I had grabbed the batteries from a remote, a compact, and something else which I'm not sure of. And the red light wasn't even lit. I facepalmed and realized, "heeey, maybe it has something to do with the BATTERIES.". So today I went to the store and got a few, and the thing works like a charm. Sorry I dismissed you so quickly, SB-26. Sorry.

Oh well, now I have 3 flashes. Old, enormous 550EX, compact SB-28, and the optically-triggerable SB-26. Currently using the last two until I get my (hopefully) fixed Elinchrom Skyports back. Then I'll do something like 550EX on cam, SB-28 attached to Skyport and SB-26 fired by the other flashes.

The picture is misfocused by a few millimetres, but I didn't want to keep my helpful dad wait too long.
