A young couple called and asked if I would be willing to meet them at the beach for some candid-style family portraits. It seems they had a hard time finding any photographer in the area that was willing to leave the comfort of their studio for something like this. I don't know, maybe it was an issue of finding one that would be willing to do it for the price the couple was willing to pay for it.

Anyway, we met about 1.5 hours before sunset and I'm so glad I did. We had a fun time, until park management threw us out of the playground about 15 minutes before sunset...

1. Playing in the sand

3. And, after you play in the sand, you need to clean your hands, right?

This and the next one were taken right before sunset, so are a bit warm. I elected to keep some of that warmth, rather than "correct" the WB.

4. This child was so wired - having fun with the photog and not cooperating:D

5. Finally, we settled down. Well, just a bit anyway...

Thanks for looking. As usual, C&C is most welcome.

#5 is cute, she looks like a wired little kid, she's get along with my oldest! LOL
Anyways....the only thing that bothers me and I guess I dunno if you can even correct that, the hot spots in the first 3 images. In #1 mom and dad's faces are very bright (sun I'm assuming), in #2 the little girls face is, the legs to a degree but not as bad as her face, and in #3 the girls outfit is very bright (mom's seem fine as well as her hair, its just the little girls clothing that seems bright there).
The warmth don't bother me. Aside from those hot spots I think they're nice.

I LOVE #4. This is the kind of picture that makes people come to us as location photographers and NOT to a studio! I love to capture the personalities of children doing what they normally do...crazy or not! Great job!

TSEE - Very astute comments. I really appreciate them. When I read your response through the first time, I thinking, "What hot spots?" But, you're right - the red channel is blown just a bit on those areas you mentioned. Nothing to be done about it then or now - called limited dynamic range. I do believe, if I had tried to keep the red channel, I would have ended up seriously plugging the darks (his and her sweaters). Thanks.

Ima871 - And, that's why I do it. I can get much more interaction between the "subjects" that way than if I have them in a studio where they are, essentially, lined up as if for a firing squad. It was such great fun! Thanks so much for looking and commenting.

I agree about the hotspots but the pics are well composed (I'd crop #4 to look a bit more like #5). Much better than being cooped up in a studio!

I forgot to mention that #4 was intended, when it was taken, to be an out-take. So, all I did with it was a little curves and sharpening - didn't spend a lot of time on it...
