This photograph was taken by Pulitzer Prize winning photographer Todd Heisler during my own homecoming ceremony in February 2006. Me and my son Haegan (4 months old at the time). Just like to share.

Fantastic shot.

Was Haegan born while you were overseas?

Fantastic shot.

I went home on mid-tour leave just after the offensive Operation Restoring Rights in Tal Afar (Tall Afar). I arrived home the day before he was born. I literally got off the plane, spent a day with the wife, and then she went into labor. Timing couldn't have been more perfect. I spent about a month at home and went back to Iraq accepting the fact that I may never see my son ever again. So this was our first reunion after that long separation. ;)

Sad true story, the wife of one of my Soldiers who was killed in action gave birth nearly the same time my wife did. Needless to say, he never made it home to see his daughter. I count my blessings.

What took you so long to share? This is the perfect picture. I can see why it won. Your boy is so cute. Look at those eyes. Thanks for sharing.

A beautiful and touching photograph... I bet you're now happy that such an excellent photographer was there to capture it.

Actually, this photograph didn't win anything, except maybe our hearts and minds.
