Ok perhaps im slightly retarded, or doing something wrong or not noticing something..but Im having an issue with the AF on my mk2n.... I dont normally use the AF and when I do I usually use the center AF point(by holding the af button and scrolling the wheel). I have recently started shooting bicicle riding and its much faster than the things im used to so its tough to keep the center AF point on the person 100% of the time. Everytime the person gets away from that 1 middle square the camera focuses somewhere else....

When scrolling through the AF Point selection, it will only chose 1 point somewhere, or the points around the outsdide of the set of AF points. My question is this: With the setting where all of the outer points light up, are the ones inside that "circle" active as well or just the outer ones? Im looking for better, more consistant AF. I know a part of the problem could be the lens I was using at the time(28-75) and didnt try the 70-200 but I figured Id ask you guys!

Thanks alot

Yes, by selecting the the "circle", it will also use all the points inside.

The circle of fire is setting the camera to automatic auto focus point selection. You're giving the camera the choice to pick the point it thinks is appropriate from all the points available.

If they're moving that fast, why aren't you using AI Servo for focusing?

I am using AI Servo, and like I said, Im pretty convinced that the odd focusing was largely due to the lens I was using and the fact that it struggles in low light

in servo, ring of fire (RoF as you may see in many places) starts at the center focus point and then follows that subject even if it moves to one of the outer points. in one shot, it'll just choose a point.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

Check you Al Servo speed also. Try it on slow and see if you can stay on the subject better.

And in selective AF point, you might want to be sure to try with AF point expansion on too. That way it also uses the immediate surrounding focus points to help track the object if it falls off of the center (of whichever) point. It doesn't work that 'generally' but that's the idea. Try reading up on it in the manual and see if it would help with what you're experiencing.
